In light of what's going on off the coast of Texas today, let me recommend "Isaac's Storm," a book about Isaac Cline, the Galveston weatherman whose mistakes were at least in part responsible for the huge death toll of the hurricane that destroyed Galveston 108 years ago this week. The official death toll was 8,000, and it may have been higher than that. Among them was Isaac's pregnant wife.

And I am enjoying Terry Pratchett's "Mort." Turns out Death is a great short-order cook, and a real cat lover.

You can get both those books from Amazon.com and have them shipped to you. I order occasionally from amazon.com.uk and get the British versions of some books, such as the Harry Potter books.
