Hi Everyone
I'm back X_X after 2 months of PEACE AND QUIET..
well not really but at least no other drama w/ the cats.
Just to fill anyone in who may be reading this and able to offer some help before Miss. Bitchy-Coco-Chanel (my problem cat) ends up at the shelter.
I adopted Coco 3 years ago on my bday, she's always been really independent and kind of rebellious cat (the kind that when you tell them not to scratch or do something - they continue to do it WHILE looking at you) --
and this year I got my other Kitten Alexander - who is So So So cute and adorable and he cuddles and likes to be smothered and sleep with you and purrs and purrs and purrs, and loves coco but everytime he NEARS her, she GROWLS and Hisses/Runs away (Even though I wish she'd stop running away cuz it only makes him chase her/piss her off more)

-
So anyway
a while back my Mom and brother were visiting me, and I live in a small 2 bedroom apt with my roommate so my Mom and Bro were staying in my room on my bed, and I on the floor
she ended up peeing on my Floor/bed
we washed it, I ended up rolling my blankets up every morning before I go to work so she coulnd't pee on it.
after my Mom and brother left, it was like nothing happened
she didn't quite get along with Alex but she ate w/ him, sometimes took naps w/ him, but just didn't want to play, everytime he would try to play w/ her, she'd growl/hiss/runaway

Anyway
So
This whole week has just been so stressful, at work, etc, I have a flu, and a cold, and strep,, but still went to work and have been taking home things to work on (Yay for the economy)
so Monday as I lay down (btw my nose has been stuffed til yesterday it finally cleared and I can smell)
and I took some NYquil (this was already 1:30 AM)
I roll over and landed in a wet spot
and im like, Oh MY GOD please TELL me I spilled water on my bed or something somehow
X_X drag myself out of bed, and there was a HUGE wet spot right in the middl eof my bed, throguh my comforter, sheets, 2 more blankets I use as cushion under my sheets, my coverings, and luckily since the floor incident I covered my mattress w/ plastic so it didnt go through that
so I douse the thing in Nature's Miracle
and put it to wash, around 4:30 I finally got everything back on the bed went to sleep
rolled up my comforter to the corner
come home on tuesday
ANOTHER SPOT, like 5 " away from wehre the original was,
also discovered while at 2Am i finally get to bed
I'm so P*ssed i changed the sheets and slept on that cuz she didnt get to the blanket this time
Yesterday
came home
ANOTHER SPOT
AND GOT MY BLANKET AGAIN (even though it was smushed to the corner of my bed)

so I tore off all the things on my bed, even changed the plastic on my bed (Dear God)
and slept on the plastic w/ another new blanket

this MORNING i feel something PAWING at me
I turn over
she PEED while I was IN BED?

Ok..
So.

Here are things that have "changed"

my Feliway ran out - so I have that coming in the mail
I got another litter box, took the litter box out of my roommates room which has been quote unquote "alex's litter box" (but Alex has been using Coco's anyway, since he's a brat and he doesnt' really get that whole territorial thing, i mean this cat is unbelievably silly and nice - and loves every animal we near him to)
and I bought another litter box and removed the temporary one in my roommate's room
put both litter boxes in my bathroom since my roommate didnt want a litterbox in his bathroom (due to litter getting everywhere)

so Last night I discussed these behaviors to him and he agreed to separate the cats, move the litter box back, and see what happens

So I locked alex of my room, coco locked in w/ me
and O did she seem SO happy
sprawling on the floor, purring, kneading me etc

Even at night when I went to my plastic w/ a blanket on top poor excuse of a bed, she slepted at the corner of the blanket w/ me all night

I woke up this morning to her in the litter box (prob only pooing)
and then 30 minutes later (fell back asleep)
I woke up to her pawing at my blanket like she would be in the littler box
RIGHT next to me
like, literally if I rolled over even a little bit I would've landed in the HUUUGEEE puddle of pee.

So this afternoon afterwork I'm getting her checked for UTI

Now - if its NOT UTI - could this possibly be because she's just upset?? but why would she sleep w/me and purr and knead and be so happy I locked him out
and STILL pee on my bed.

So if the scenario comes out that she doesn't have UTI
what do I do?
Put her on Kitty Zoloft??

At this point I am really thinking about dropping her off at a humane society.

I don't even know whats going on with my job, I'm trying to save money so in case of a lay-off
and now I'm forking over god-only-knows how much AGAIN on this STUPID CAT
that is just a b*tch and has ruined so many things X_X And i've just endured her time after time - and I saved her from the brink of death at a shelter (sigh) X_X
I can't get rid of Alex because he is just So So So sweet

If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions as what to do please help me out ;_; even for peace of mind.

OH and IF she DOES have UTI
how long does it take to cure and will she continue to pee on my bed til she's "better"?? I can't afford dry cleaning bills every night but I guess I can always sleep on the couch until she's better (
)

Pixel peed on my bed once... while i was still in it! as a matter of fact, had i not moved quickly, she'd've peed on my head!
anyway, we went straight to the vet - got her on clavamox. never happened again.

^Sho did that a few years ago, to DH.
We knew the cause, he was P.O.'ed that we had taken his food and water away the night before because he was going in to get his teeth cleaned.

Make sure everything is ruled out with the vet first. Never hurts to be 100% sure.

YUP not UTI
no blood in Urine
4 times in a row
Described the whole thing to my vet, and he said it definitely sounds like a behavior issue
she peed on my white down comforter which has NO blood stains on it, at all X_X
In fact he said he didn't want to charge me and do a UTI test and all that because he's almost sure its behavioral
Vet suggested I force her to take her Amoxicillin but I don't want to piss her off even MORE
- what do you guys think? Should I force the Amoxicillin and see what happens? Could Amoxcillin mess up a healthy cat?

She's hiding away like she did when she had the eye infection- but I think thats just cuz she knows Im pissed and theres something wrong - but I think she peed in the litter box today because I didnt have any covers except plastic on my bed/mattress

Im going to try to keep the matress pad uncovered tonight w/ just a plastic covering on there tonight
and sleep in the living room while my comforters are still out being dry cleaned
I'll see if she pees on the plastic

I'm going to keep her locked in my room until she seems better

earlier she HISSED at the SIGHT of Alex!
he was like across the room

I don't know what happened but she obviously can not stand him, and I dont think she will act normal until he he is gone, period

X________X

I am at a loss at what to do.
It will be a while before I can have a big house, or anything like that I have an apartment w/ no balcony - Alex wants to be w/ me all the time
Coco doesnt want Alex, period V_____V

what would you guys do?

hellpp!!!

If your cat doesn't have a UTI, it's probably stress and/or dissatisfaction with the litter box. I went through the same thing about 10 years ago with Felixia and just about went out of my mind, but was thankfully able to solve the problem. Her issues turned out to be stress (my irregular schedule, not enough individual attention, and the other cats) combined with a problem with the litter boxes.

Try consistently using the following techniques:

1) Try to be calm about it. Yes, it's totally frustrating...but if stress is the cause, getting upset with the cat will only make the situation worse. I had times when I'd come home exhausted after working 18 hours straight (I was working 2 jobs) to a peed-on bed and honestly was tempted (briefly) to toss her out the window, especially the time when she peed on my pillow. But instead I took a deep breath, went for a walk or sat down to read a short story, and came back and dealt with the mess calmly. Once I started doing that instead of getting upset, SHE started to calm down.

2) Use a waterproof mattress cover under your bed linens, and use only easy-care washable bed linens until the problem is solved. Keep a spare set of clean linens handy so you can change & wash them easily. You may want to cover the bed with a waterproof tarp when you're not in it, so you can be sure to come home to clean bedding.

3) Get Feliway spray and a diffuser (if your order doesn't come quick, go ahead & buy one at a store or from a vet), and spray the bedding daily with Feliway spray

4) Keep the litter boxes super-clean and try to make them appeal to her - this link has good info: http://www.catinfo.org/litterbox

5) Try Cat Attract litter

6) Set aside regular time just for Coco with Alex out of the room, and focus on loving her and spending time with just her. Play with her favorite toy, pet her; just love her and appreciate her company. Do this every day, no matter how busy or tired you are. 'Play therapy' and affection time is vital for a stressed cat. http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.ph...therapyforcats

***********************
The 'Litterbox Secrets' articles on this page http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?action=library
may be helpful to you.

***********************

If you try this consistently and she still has trouble, you may want to find someone to keep Alex for a while & see if that helps. If it does, consider returning Alex to the shelter or finding him another home. If he's a kitten, he'll do much better being rehomed than Coco would. Any adult cat, much less a cat with urination behavior problems, doesn't stand a very good chance of being adopted from a shelter. Your Coco may just want to be an only cat.

Omg thank you for your reply

for the past few days I have been sleeping in the living room, since the Feliway spray AND diffuser are coming in the mail tomorrow

I have been keeping the cats in different rooms
Coco already seems better
she is coming up to me asking to be pet for long lengths of time,

I put Alex in our Solarium while I come home, so there is a glass so he can look out at coco and her back at him without any attacking/playing that would upset coco.
and I sleep in there until I get the Feliway
then I will try to put a sheet on my bed overnight and see if she pees on it, if not I'll ease it back into a bed

I was thinking about the Tarp Idea, but she did PEE on me directly
sooo I was thinking that may be pointless if she's gonna pee on me while I'm asleep

but I will keep my bed covered during the day if I can ease back into a bed this week
(my blankets just got back from the dry cleaning I'm prayin she wont pee on it, I spend over 100$ on all the sheets/blankets
)

I'm hoping hoping this will help
maybe I just put them together/kept doors open too early and maybe my schedule just really upset her (me not paying attention to either cats until 2 am when I'm ready to crash
)

btw she has since BEEN USING the LITTER BOX NORMALLY (seems to be able to do both things JUST FINE X_X )

It seems that your cat, Coco, does want to be the only cat. And you said, you have had her for 3 years, why would you try to find her a new home and not the kitten, Alex? I agree with the person that said to let Alex stay with someone for a week or so and see how that goes, if she improves and/or stops all together than you have the solution - no matter how much you may not like it. Alex will adjust to a new home much better than Coco and will get adopted faster. If it does come down to that please take him to a no kill shelter.
... now you said that your vet did not want to charge you to test for a UTI and just said it is behaviour problems??? I had an issue with my kitty peeing on my parents bed 2 days in a row, called my vet, he gave me some meds (he felt it was a UTI, gave me some antibiotics, and didn't test her) and she is all better now, its been about 3 or 4 days. I give her a pill every night and thats it - and I give her a couple treats after so she isn't mad at me. Give her the meds the vet gave you - see if that helps. My vet also told me that if my cat didnt get better it might be bladder stones.
I wish you all the best! Good Luck!!!!

I think some cats just pee when they are upset about anything and choose to do it where you will know what they are saying. I also have a problem cat, Cinders, whom I took in last year because my mother couldn't cope with her peeing any more.

SHe also pees on my bed quite regularly, sometimes when I am in it. She lives in my bedroom because she cannot stand the other cats, though she has been tolerating Bonaparte recently. But last night for some reason she would not let him onto the bed, but kept circling and growling so he would not jump up. I put him out but I knew she would pee to mark her territory and tried to get to her before it happened. But she won and I was changing my bed at 4 AM. I have a plastic sheet on the mattress and a spare duvet -last night the spare was already in the wash and I ended up sleeping under my housecoat and a bath towel!

Short of isolating her in a sterile room, like you I don't know what else to try.

dear god I dont know how you're doing it
yea I got plastic covers on my mattress
I'm lucky I caught her in the act this morning so it only went through 1 layer of the blanket, my leg, none on the sheets
I cant' figure out what she's upset about!

I feel so rediculous I have a cat behavior specialist thats going to call me - I left her a msg at her office - I'm going to try this Cat Anti=depressant thing if it doesnt cost arm + leg

and stock up on Nature's Miracle I guess for now??

Should I just sleep in the living room until Alex grows up X______X dear god

Unfortunately I could not let Alex go, I'm attached to him, he is so so so sweet and kind and gentle and ...everything I've always wanted in a cat X_X and so well behaved,, and just the perfect little gentleman

Coco has always been a prissy...difficult to please....finicky...attitude...cat...
I am going to try this Cat Behavior lady to see if she can think of any tricks or solutions first, otherwise I dont know what to do. Coco is the problem cat, not Alex. even though Alex caused the problems. --- but Coco had other problems in the past that I've just learned to deal with (more along the lines of destroying everything in sight, INFRONT OF YOU)

otherwise I guess I'll just have to deal w/ sleeping on a plastic matress w/ a bottle of Nature's Miracle and one eye open

Definitely try the cat behavior person...but PLEASE also discuss getting a urine sample from your cat for the vet to test. If your vet hasn't ruled out a UTI, then there's no way to say for sure that's not what it is. It would really be a shame to send your cat to a shelter to be put to death for what might be an easily treatable medical problem. If your cat needs medication, your vet can show you how to give a pill or liquid, or you can get 'pill pockets' for cats from the pet store to hide the pills in to give them as a treat.

I've worked in vet clinics and have seen several cases when clients brought cats in for euthanasia and the vet talked them into running a urinalysis first...lo & behold, every single time the poor cat turned out to have a urinary health issue that was treatable.

********

While this is being worked out, you REALLY need to go get some cheap bedding that is WASHABLE. Even a simple washable sleeping bag would do. Put your dry-clean only linens AWAY until this problem is solved.

ever since i stopped sleeping in my room i have seen her use her litter box
since wheN I get home I open the doors to try to let the cats socialize
Alex is started is starting to "get it" more that she doesnt like him, so even when he's running around crazy he's avoiding smashing into her >_<

and I sleep in the living room w /him

in the mornings when I use the restroom Coco will go in there and go pee also......so does this still sound like UTI?

like quite honestly other than the fact that she pees on my bed when I sleep in it X_________X she has NO other problems/differences in behavior or diet

I'm still waiting for the cat behaviorist to call me, I guess she's kind of hard to get ahold of - sounded like a lot of ppl had cat behavior issues when I called her clinic - and I suppose she does have to look at each case-
at least im not alone v,v;

my second cat has a peeing problem. we had a peaceful month but today she did it on our bed
in her case i really hope that it is a litterbox/stupidity issue (she is 7 month old, spayed). we are out of cluping litter and it seems that she doesnt like the wooden one. i'll buy the clumping one tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed. i was so upset today that i had a thought of sending her back to the breeder. but i cant do it, Givi loves her and he is very attached to her already

one of the cats is always smarter and behaved better than the other one. in our case Givi is a supercat (thank God) he LOVES his litterbox (he has it from childhood and he does have a special feelings for it lol), he is ok with any kind of litter i put there, and she is just a cute but silly kitten
from your posts its clear that you rather keep the kitten with you, so maybe finding someone for Coco is a better option (after you check her for uti and consult with beh.specialist). are there any relatives or close friends who can take her so you can visit her from time to time?
good luck and keep us updated

I just wanted to stop in and check to see how Coco is doing... have you given her the meds? Lucy was still using her litter box when she had a UTI and was peeing on my parents bed. And like my vet told me, it could also be bladder stones.
Hope things are getting better!

Also.... maybe you need to get back in your bed and do a little showing of who's boss. But my last 2 cats acted a lot like dogs, so that is what I would do with them. Dont know if it would work the same. .... why isnt there a "Cat Whisperer" lol

I had a cat, she was doing the same. Couldn't figure it out, went to the vet, found out she had a disorder called Feline Lower Urinary Tract Inflamation or FLUTI. It caused her blatter to get inflamed at any type of stress, nearly broke my heart. Turns out whenever she would get a bit stressed out, which was kind of often, her bladder would swell and she would have a problem wetting wherever she was. The Vet gave us pain killers, she took them very easily, and when we noticed she was getting uncomfortable, we'd give her one and it worked like a charm.. Also, increasing our time with her, extra cuddles and comforts and snuggles...
and if the other cat started getting feisty we would separate the other cat.
