Just out of curiosity, can anyone give me the approximate price of a 5 lb. / 2.27 kg. bag of Felidae kibble in U.S. dollars? I just got a bag today, and it cost €12.78 (over US$13.00), including 7% VAT. It's imported from the U.S., so is obviously going to be more expensive, but I'm wondering how much more expensive. Not that I will deprive our kitty of one of his favorite foods! The 85 g. Nutro pouches cost
€00.93 apiece (I didn't order large quantities, because he probably won't eat it, as it doesn't come in a 3 oz. / 85 g. can). When I was Stateside two years ago, I went to a Petco, and was surprised to find that I was paying less here for Iams and Eukanuba from an Internet shop. WalMart was naturally cheaper, but had less of a selection.

It's $11.99 here in Canada! In the US it's $5.99. The Nutro pouches in Canada are $0.75. So your paying $7.00 more than what you would pay if you lived in the US. You can go to Pet Food Direct and look at the prices of different foods in US dollars!

Thanks for your reply. That's not too bad - I really worry about "mad cow disease", and have a bit more faith in the NAFTA regulations than I do in the EU ones. If you consider 7% VAT and the transport costs, it's fairly reasonable, when you consider vets' costs. Of course, JC is an "only child" - if we had more cats (definitely not to his liking) it would be beyond our means. He has decided that he won't eat the Nutro pouches - do your cats insist on seeing everything you open?
