We posted this on the new forum too, but we can't resist showing off our new baby.

OH MY! - if you don't want him, send him to me! I almost had a deep red classic tabby/white kitten. Even picked out a name "Red Hot Chili Pepper" - he was flashy as all get out. Was gonna show him in the household pet classes (guarenteed winner
) but someone else adopted him at the time.

Thanks guys! He is just the sweetest thing. I went to the shelter with my O/H and we knew he was the one we had to have as soon as I picked him up. He was totally confident and relaxed and started purring immediately. He purrs like a little morroca all the time except when he's fast asleep.

We're a little worried because he's very young - only just turned 8 weeks. But the mother cat was not at the shelter. He seems to be eating okay, but isn't really drinking his water. He's very energetic though and doesn't seem to be suffering from it.

This is our first cat and any advice on feeding, litter training, care etc. Would be greatly appreciated. The kitten is our only indoor pet, but I have horses and am used to lavishing care on animals

He is so cute and is going to be a handsome cat. If you're giving him wet food, which is good, I wouldn't be concerned about the amount of water he is drinking. Cats natural way to get most of their water is from their food. Until he gets older I wouldn't use clumping clay litter. The babies get curious and may eat the litter so it's best to stay away from the clumping clay litter. If you want to use clumping get one of the natural ones like World's Best. Keep him in a small enough area with the litter box until he gets used to it and after you're sure he is comfortable with using it have several around the house so he will be able to make it to one while he is a baby. He may already be litter trained, I got both of mine when they were really young and they were both already good about using the litter box.

Welcome to TCS, cutie!
I have my own red cat named Steve and he did the same thing when we went to see him - totally confident, purred like a motor and a total love bug. Now, he's a year and a half old and he's still purring away. I just
it.

I would give him canned food so that you can make sure he gets his proper water intake. You can try purchasing a water fountain, as well. Many cats love this and will drink more since the water circulates and it's fresh.

And, posting more pics wouldn't hurt as well.......
