Yesterday, I went to our local Pet Express to get Greenies for Butzie. They were doing the cat adoptions and, of course, I looked before DH took me away.

There was a beautiful orange tabby purebred Maine Coon, male, about 3 (same age as Butzie) . He is so cuddly, if you like to lift weights.

I didn't take him home right then and there because:

I have 2 budgies that fly free
Butzie is an indoor/outdoor cat
The big boy is declawed and absolutely cannot go outside.

So, I just agreed to foster him starting this Sun, or whatever the correct terms are. I have never done this. Would anyone be upset with me if it didn't work out? Mostly because I don't want the birds eaten but, of course, Butzie gets the final okay for a new friend. Maybe if she has a friend she will not want to go outside. I am hoping that this does not sound bad, like I just am doing this to keep Butzie inside.

I am a bit terrified. He has all his shots, is neutered and just so big! Like my RIP Brownie. I loved that big boy!

Wish me luck. He is coming this Sunday.

You never know it might work out. I didnt have time to call that number today to see if they would adopt to Modesto. Will you keep him if everything works out? I have taken in cats and had a hard time giving them up.

Rosemary how sweet of you to open your home up to this little furbaby!!
That's going to be one lucky kitty to have you taking such good care of him!!

If you need any help at all, i'm only a pm away
I hope all goes well!!

Be sure to introduce gradually and get some feliway difusers going!

Wow, good for you!! I hope he ignores the budgies
He sounds like an absolute sweetheart

Oh and I get my Greenies from Safeway! Less chance of adopting a cat that way

There's nothing wrong with worrying about the babies you already have. They should come first.
But I think you'll okay if you decide to take in the new addition.

Whatever you decide..

Be upset with you? No way!! It's great that you are taking him home, yay!!

Even on a trial basis, or as a foster, or only under Butzie's approval. You are trying and he will get a home and love, even if just for a little while. It's win-win and a great thing all around!!

With me and fostering, I said right off the bat, if Evie doesn't like it, they go. She comes first and foremost, and Butzie should too!

I'm really happy for you and that big love! Maybe we'll both end up with Maine Coon (mix)s.
There's lots of great advice on here about how to introduce them. Best of luck to your whole family!

Wow it sounds exciting that you're thinking of opening up home and heart to fostering this big boy. How sad that he's declawed though

Is it possible to "introduce" Butzie to her new friend-to-be by taking home things which has got his smell on it before he actually arrives? And yes, the magical Feliway plug-ins as well. (Never used those before since they don't seem to sell it anywhere in Singapore, but everyone on TCS swears by it, so I'm guessing it works wonders
)

Best of luck vibes comin' your way!

I can't wait to meet the big guy
The pic of what he kinda looks like is adorable

Butzie is such a sweetheart that I bet it goes just fine, but Feliway is a great idea of course. FYI, I ran them the first couple of months after I got Holly and since they have run out no difference is apparent. But, it couldn't hurt!

Good on you - whether it works out or not, at least you have given this little one a chance, and that is the most important thing.

It can't hurt to try right? Cinnamon and Sage had the final word in keeping Bell If they said she had to go she had to go no questions asked. Cinnamon suprised me by just loving the little girl right off the bat so she's here to stay now you never know Butzie may suprise you just the same.

You may just be surprised. I never knew my Seldon was such a social butterfly until I started fostering. He just loves other cats.
With proper intros and everything which includes a couple of feliway plugs things should move right along.
Maine Coons are HUGE! You can get your biceps in shape too.

I had a Maine Coon mix and he was the mellowest, most laid back cat I have ever seen. A bird could probably land on his his softball sized head and he would roll over for a tummy rub. He was 22lbs of the sweetest cat ever. I hope your big guy is as sweet. Any time a cat would join the mix, I had Fred and Leo to welcome him, so we had no bad intros.

My aunt's Maine-Coon-Mix was wonderful with people and other cats, but was a terror to dogs. Not just dogs--all canines. He used to chase coyotes out of the yard. I'm not sure how much he weighed, but it was over 20 lbs.

I have good news about the Maine Coon. I posted another thread about not being able to take him until mid-October because of my Mom's problems.
The rescue lady left a message yesterday and said that she found someone to take him and the other cat that lived with him. She had mentioned to me that the guy had dropped off a Himalayan cat that had already been adopted but she did not mention a third cat.

So I guess the cat gods are watching out for all of us. I don't have to worry about not being able to take the cat until I return from Mom's and the big guy got adopted by a nice family.

BTW, if I had known that there was a third kitty, I would not have even tried to adopt because I would have wanted both of them to be together and I am not up to that at this time in my life.

So, I guess it is a win-win situation for the cats and me.

Vibes for the kitties in their new home and that they appreciate that big beautiful boy. Vibes, too, please, for my Mom and for me sot that I can arrange things for her when I go back to see her.
