Best litter to start new kittens in the litterbox?

I was looking at Kitten Attract Litter thinking I could use that to start training my kittens to use the litter box. However, the package states it is for kittens aged 8-12 weeks. It's also clumping litter, which I've read is not the best for very young kittens.

The regular clay litter I started using shortly before Goldy delivered looks awfully coarse. I'm not sure little baby paws would be strong enough to dig in it. The kittens are 2-1/2 weeks old now and I plan to put out shallow litter pans for them at about 4 weeks.

Any recommendations?

If I do eventually use the Kitten Attract, does it have to be used alone or can I mix it with other clumping litter? I do plan to go back to clumping litter for mom. I had been using the Arm & Hammer unscented litter, which has a sandy texture. I may be looking for something more earth-friendly as well.

My limited experience with kittens is they will go into what ever litter you use.

My recoomendation is to use what I use, chicken feed crumbles. It is all natural, and clumps, has no fragrance and is biodegradable. If that is not available, then something similar. Swheat scoop is a good one.

If you are going inexpensive, culming fragrance free is your best bet.

I used Kitten Attract with my litter and it worked instantly. I had 8 kittens in the litter and every one of them used it as soon as I gave it to them ....a few days before they turned 4 weeks old. I found a few crumbs of it on their noses right after they were in it, but it wipes off really easily and they were good at getting it off themselves as well. I would use that instead of clay just because it does have the clumping ability and less poopies to stick to their feet.

If I go with the Kitten Attract from the beginning, can I mix it with the regular clumping litter that mom uses? I plan to put a small pan for the kittens next to each of the larger litter pans, and that could get really expensive if I'm using the straight Kitten Attract.

You don't need to attract them. It is their instinct to use the litter box. Don't try to reinvent the wheel.
