The older I get the more fear seems to emerge! I fear being alone, growing old alone, and with no insurance, or retirement! I fear the next death in my family, only because I know what grief is now!!! I have always had the fear of being buried alive, or put in my trunk of my car, by force! Oh and since I was young, we used to go down to Caddo River to water ski, there were
several slues that you could follow off the river, that would take you out to
the big lake. One was called "government ditch" which was probably about a
mile long, it was a narrow water way, with moss trees that grew over it forming a canopy so to speak! everytime my dad took us down the ditch in the boat, I would get the chills, and I would think and sometimes say aloud, I would die if I ever had to swim in the ditch! That was a tremendous fear of mine.....until finally one late summer day about 12 yrs ago, one of my good friends was getting married, another friend of ours had a lakehouse down on the river, when I arrived, it was about 5 pm. they had had some drinks and wanted to go ride the wave runner, well I hadn't had anything to drink, so I said I would take them for a ride! This wave runner was ex large, it held 4 of us, and off we went down the river, and back and then we came to the little bridge that you went under and were then in the government ditch, so I decided to go down the ditch, everything was fine and we made it to the big lake, (the big lake was being taken over with moss, which meant that about 5 inches from the surface was nothing but moss, to the bottom! Well whenever I was going to turn around, moss got sucked up in the jet of the wave runner! and it died.....well I didn't get it out of my mouth quick enough to say "Don't lean......and there we went turned over into the moss filled lake!
OMG!!!OMG!! I get anxiety just typing this........well we were about a 1/2 mile from anything, and there weren't any people on the lake being the end of August, so we made the decision to swim back to the ditch!!! Oh and you had to go through alligator bayou to get to the ditch! thank goodness we all had life jackets on! but swimming in the moss was torcher enough! then to think I had to swim the alligator bayou and then the ditch! we got to the bayou, and we could stand up the water was that low! one friend was screaming "we're gonna die!!" over and over! we were swimming in the water for 4 hrs. and nobody came by. we finally made it to the ditch and I was about to die!! But I didn't! I had made it through one of my worst fears! It didn't make the fear go away though cause I would never want to be swimming in that part of that lake again! I still fear that!!!!! sorry that was lengthy! anyway I do have more but I'll spare everyone!!
