I was just driving along the other day (ridin' and guidin', as the truckers say), when it occurred to me that almost everyone has something they're afraid of. Some of them are rational fears, like a fear of heights. Some are irrational, like a fear of hills (yes, I know someone like that).

When I was growing up, my mother had a bad habit of moving almost every summer, and sometimes more often.

Every time we moved into a new house, I was terrified of the dark in that house for several weeks. I just KNEW someone was hiding in the shadows, behind a door, in a closet, or under a bed.

How about you?

Caves freak me out. It's weird because I never actually been inside of a cave and I am pretty sure I would never go into one..

Not sure why because I am not claustrophobic or afraid of the dark guess it's just one of those things.

Spiders are the worst, I can usually tolerate small spiders but if they're bigger than a dime I tend to freak out. I'm also afraid of horse flies... those things HURT when they bite! A silly one is that I am terrified of dolls, any kind of dolls, I just can't look at them or have them near me.

When I was a small child I was convinced that there was a witch with very long fingernails that lived at the foot of my bed, waiting to scratch my feet if they became uncovered during the night. To this day, I can't stand having my feet uncovered at night no matter how hot I am!

Heights

That's all I can think of at this moment.

My top 3 fears are:

1. Drowning
2. Being burnt alive
3. Having a spider, or any creepy crawlie with lots of legs, on me.

I'm terrified of fire, beyond even the normal healthy fear of it. I was 20 before I could strike a match, and it scares me silly to be living now in a house with a gas furnace and water heater. There's a part of me that almost hopes Mom and I do have to give up the house -- just so we can move to a place that's all-electric.

I'm also afraid of spiders, but luckily, I don't panic when I see one. I'm fairly inept most of the time, but when I see a spider, by golly, I swing right into arachnicidal action! Spiders haven't got a chance around me!

I used to be paralyzingly afraid of large dogs, and there are still traces of it in me at times... but when I volunteered at the shelter, I had a chance to get more accustomed to dogs, and now my love for them usually overwhelms my fear. When somebody hands you a young Doberman with a broken leg and he lays his head on your shoulder and gazes up at you with big scared eyes... I guess motherly instinct kicks in.

Spiders.
Heights.
Dying, not so much how but really just being dead scares me.
Being in water where I can't touch the bottom. If I don't know where the bottom is, I will freak out. I had no idea of this fear until I went snorkling in the ocean and had a full blown panic attack.
That's all I can think of at this time.

Well, I do have a fear of water that I've been working on. I've finally managed to get into the 5" end of the pool and even tread water or free style swim so long as my face isn't in the water. However, I don't think I will ever be able to get into water where my feet don't touch bottom. My fear of water is an "irrational" one. While I did drown when I was 9 or 10 years old, it's not only deep water that I'm afraid of. I can't stand water running down my face be it rain or shower. I also can't splash water on my face when washing, I have to use a face cloth. Even perspiration on my face sends up red flags with me.

I'm also afraid of the dark. Yeah I know!
But not just any dark. The darkness of a city is fine. It's pitch black dark like outside of town that freaks me out.

I also have a fear of fire. I rarely burn candles, and only when I have company over for dinner. And as soon as dinner is over, the candles are put out. I think being burned alive would be the most horrid way to die.

I was watching some talk show a few years ago where they had people on who had odd fears. I think it was Maury's show. There were women afraid of birds, cotton balls, mustard, pickles....and I forget what else. The idea of the show was to have them confront and overcome their fears. By the end of the show apparently they were all "cured"

^ Yeah I saw that one, i think there was a lady on there who was afraid of aluminum foil. as stupid as it may seem, it is not funny.

I have pretty normal fears, like im afraid of heights, extremely! im afraid of spiders, but i just can never bring myself to kill one, its still a living thing. i make my bf kill them. im scared to die, & the fact that i almost did die makes my fear of it worse.. the fact that it could happen at anytime with no warning.

But, then i have an irrational fear. Im a lil embarrassed to say this but im afraid of MUSTARD!!! its so gross & it smells SO bad that i dont want it anywhere near me & i freak out if i touch a dish with some mustard on it, it just makes me SICK!

One of the odder fears I've come across is the fear of bare feet.

My only fear is completely irrational and pretty stupid. Parents; don't let ten year old children watch the Exorcist. Ever.

I am TERRIFIED of being possessed, or being around anyone who is "possessed". When I was younger, I wouldn't sleep with the light off, and I couldn't just have a night light, nope, full on lights. I was not a popular sleep-over guest. From the 5th grade until the 8th grade, I would not sleep with it off, no matter what.

Now I'm not so much afraid of the dark unless I really start to think about it, but if people around me start acting uncharacteristic, or if they make weird faces and talk in weird voices, I FREAK out. I hate it. Even if I know they're being stupid and just a jerk, on some level it terrifies me.

Yeah, I'm insane. ^_^;

Spiders!

I also have a fear of those big semi trucks that tow cars. Not a tow truck but they tow numerous cars to dealerships (I can't think of what they're called)
They scare the crap out of me!!
When one passes me while I'm driving, my heart pounds, palms get sweaty and I get a lump in my throat

I'm also scared of water that I can't see the bottom of

I love to go swimming as long as it's in a swimming pool

I don't like not knowing where the bottom is or what's in it

And that's why I don't like boats either.

Oh my goodness I forgot about

I am not afraid of the little ones you get around the house, Linus is my great a fearless spider killer...
However, we use to get these huge dock spiders where I grew up that were huge with the body the size of a golf ball..they were harmless but gross just the same...

I'm also afraid of dying from cancer.

I remember seeing that. That woman just totally freaked out when they hauled out the aluminum foil.
It was pitiful to watch.

My biggest fear is being "homeless", but I understand why. When I moved to Texas to be with an ex-b/f, he kicked me out into the streets, with no money to get a place of my own with, and no way to get back home. I had never been so terrified in my life.
To this day, if I even think I may lose my home, I begin to have panic attacks and freak out.

The thought of losing my son or granddaughter, and my furbies too, scares me.

I have a few and they're all irrational

Spiders, but only if they "surprise" me, like if they magically appear hanging in front of me or something, I screamed at work one time cause of that

Sharks. I have never come into contact with one, but Jaws absolutely scared the crap-ola out of me when I was little. I watch Shark Week on Discovery every year and probably know more about sharks than any normal person, but I absolutely refuse to go into the ocean because of it. The only time I did was on my honeymoon and let me tell you, I was petrified the whole time, I even managed to suck in a bunch of sea water when I panicked for a second
that stuff tastes bad

I don't know if it's really a fear, but I will not look into a mirror in a dark room, Bloody Mary and all that

I have a huge fear of cats and BIG wild cats especially
I think by now you should know I am kidding
I don't really have any huge fears, maybe more concerns than anything. My biggest fear is the government taking away more and more of our freedoms until they are completely gone.

Under a pile of cats (and dogs)
My number 1 would be death, I cant even think about it or I'll have anxiety attacks.
I get pretty jittery concerning heights that I can fall off of (no railing etc)
and black widows freak me out.
