A very kind person was feeding a stray and one day he showed up very very injured. She took him to the vet and he tested positive for FeLeuk, but is healing up well.
Due to a complicated situation she CANNOT take him home, he has until FRIDAY or he will be pts

This cat is located 60 miles north of Atlanta, Ga.

Oh, I hope he finds a home!! If I wasn't bringing a new baby home so soon, I'd offer to take him (but even then, I couldn't take him til I get my new place, anyway). I live in Atlanta, so I'll see if anyone is looking for a kitty!! I hope it works out!

It is spread by prolonged contact of body fluids, so living together - sharing bowls, grooming each other, is the most common way of transmitting the disease. Studies have shown it to be far less contagious than previously thought. A vet at the emergency clinic I go to told me of a study where 12 positive cats were each put in a cage with a negative, unvaccinated, cat for a year. At the end of the year only one of the negative cats was positive.
I still would not allow a positive cat to mix with negative cats, but as long as they are kept seperate the negative cats will be fine. It is no at all airborne. The virus dies quickly, usually within a half hour, of leaving the cat unless it is kept warm and moist.
