Hi Sandie,
LaPerms are born one of three ways, concerning their coat; they are either born curly, born bald or born straight. The best way to tell is to be there at birth and you will see the wave in the coat if they are born curly. If they are born bald the coat will start to come in within a few weeks and they will be curly as well. Born straight is almost always a straight hair; however, if the whiskers are curly the hair will become curly after the first time they go bald. Yes, they shed most of their coat a few times in the early years (both the born bald and the born curly). Here is a picture of one that has done just that.

Here are a couple of our Norwegian Forest Cats. Both are CFA and TICA Champions. The red mactabby is Johan and the brown classic is Phantasia (we call her Teaghan).

What a great story and the name you gave her is quite fitting! What is this other breed you guys are talking about being unethical? I am not a breeder but work in rescue and am not familiar with some of the more obscure breeds. Will you guys try to fill me in? When we rescue kitties, we get purebreds alot, believe it or not, and it is always nice to know what we have!

No, twisty cats are something completly different. The twisty cats are bred to have mutated front legs. Skookums are nothing more than a Munchkin with Laperm.
