Major changes today! Marianjela moved into second place by using always. Yam102284 moved into the green (the top eight) and would be in the playoffs if held today by using the word time. Know was also used by Marianjela but remained open for another member and laureen227 got the 700 points. CatKiki also scored 700 points by using thought. The secret word not used was eat. Yeah, as to eat cookies.

Today's KatKwiz was about privacy.

Do you feel that your posts remain private from outside of The Cat Site? Is security of a concern to you? Have you ever checked out the Privacy Statement before? Are you satisfied with knowing that what you post on TCS is secure from outside parties? Finally, do you think you are going to use one of the five secret words today?

Well, I know that as a guest, I can view posts without being logged in, so I don't post anything here that I wouldn't want people to know.

Is security of a concern to you?

Yes

Have you ever checked out the Privacy Statement before?

Not thoroughly.

Are you satisfied with knowing that what you post on TCS is secure from outside parties?

I believe that these days, especially online, nothing is ever completely secure.

Finally, do you think you are going to use one of the five secret words today?

Knowing my luck, Probably not.

P.S. do I get extra points for posting from a nice bubble bath...that was probably an overshare lol

No, since the site isnt private I imagine plenty of people drift thorugh.

Is security of a concern to you?
Not really, I don't post anything particularly private (like my address or something) so I don't have much that I need to worry about there.

Have you ever checked out the Privacy Statement before?
I never have

I agree with Weldrwomn, its the internet, there isnt much thats really secure!

Finally, do you think you are going to use one of the five secret words today? Oh I doubt it : )

Thank you

I don't feel that the posts remain private outside of TCS. Before I joined, I used to "lurk" around and read posts before I decided on joining. As a guest, you can look at whatever posts you want, but you can't comment obviously. I think maybe some topics should be off limits to guests, such as IMO. I've seen it done in other forums. Some topics such as an IMO type forum, or something else that could cause controversy would be private to only members. It's something that I thought of, but it really doesn't make me more careful to what I post. I obviously won't post my full name or address, but I'll still post pictures and what not.

I've never checked out the privacy statement before. I've really never had the need to.

Who knows, I may use one of the secret words. I've been doing pretty good lately!

I am confident that my posts remain viewable to TCSers only. Althought it really wouldn't bother me much if people outside of TCS could read them. It's not like I'm giving out personal information and such. Security is a concern to me but never while I'm on TCS. I doubt I'll use one of the words today, been doing awful at it lately.

No I don't think they remain private. If you did a google search on a topic, a post could come up (i've seen it before) But, it is really not a concern for me as I try not to post too much personal info anyway.

I actually have only skimmed through the Privacy Statement.

as far as using the secret word...it is anyone's guess lol

Oh and I came SO close to using the word eat... We coulda had a cleen sweep, but I had to get fancy and say "edible" instead

I see you had no comments on my Steelers
Smart man
I thought for sure "Steelers" was going to be the secret word.
Maybe today
Thanks for the points again!
I am excited to move to second place, but I have a feeling I will be easily bumped down again...

I do NOT feel that my posts remain private outside of the forums. I have done cat-related searches before that turned up TCS posts in the hits. In fact after reading your questions, I started to second guess myself, so I Google some words I know had a post in the archives and sure enough it was listed.

You probably would have to dig a bit to get past all the more conspicuous hits, but I know you can crawl into TheCatsite through the back door. Which I totally expect. I dont ever post to a message board with out the expectation that outsiders can read it. Unless it is a mailing list (with private archives) I dont expect my privacy regarding who can read my posts to be a big secret.

In fact, I am sure the site relies on Yahoo and Google searches. That is how I found my way to the site in the beginning when I first joined. I was surfing the net regarding information on the pregnant cat I just adopted from the humane society and it wasnt long before I ran across the forums and was drawn to join.

Security is very important to me, in that I dont want my email address passed around the World Wide Web, likewise my phone number or address, so I appreciate TCS's privacy statement. Without a policy in place I am very leery to join any site. I do not like to sign up to things if I think they may have hidden spyware programs, if they sell my info to third parties, or if I think I will be bombarded with spam if I give them my email address.

However (you knew that was coming, didnt you?) I do have a webmail account that I use solely for this purpose. I use it to join sites where I dont want my email address compromised. On site that I trust, and that show their confidentiality, I have no problem using my real email for.

I have read the privacy statement before, and as I said above it states right in it's statement that you should exercise caution when posting in the forums. You can never be too careful.

I know people from my childhood cancer support group that posted updated messages about their child's progress on the LLS message boards. They happened to mention that they were going on their Make-A-Wish trip and gave the dates, while they were away they were robbed. On the message boards she never gave out her address, but she did link to her personal homepage which did... Now no one can prove that it happened because someone was stalking their page and knew when they wouldnt be home, or if it was on more personal home front or just a plain old fluke, but I am always careful never to give out too much information. Even if you think your ONE single post is ok, it is the collective posts as a whole that might put a puzzle together. I feel especially strong about protecting myself and practicing safe surfing to not only protect myself but my children! In today's age you also have to remind your kids to be careful when they are on the internet too!

I am satisfied that my information is safe from third parties here on TCS. I dont think Anne is going to sell my information and I trust my personal information is safe in her hands. I know this site must take up a significant amount of her time to keep up and running and I understand the costs incurred with running a website, but it is evident that she works hard to maintain the advertisers on this site and besides the revenue brought in there, the subscriptions that she offers to premium members is another great source of income for the maintenance and upkeep of the site. I dont have any fear of her selling my information to someone else.

Sometimes I get a feeling that I can type the whole dictionary and not hit on the secret word, so I am never confident that I will use one, but I can hope! I imagine my chances get slimmer and slimmer the more I win. I'm a glass-is-half-empty type of person. I figure you gotta lose sometimes and you never know when it will be.

I'm going to go totally off on a tangent here but that reminds me that I am not a gambling person. DH and I went to Atlantic City years ago and I hardly spent a penny in the casinos. Hubby always feels lucky and thinks he is going to win the big one, but I think those casinos are in operation because they are making money of the people losing, and I just know that person is going to be me... so I just dont contribute. I'm not a lottery player either.

Anyway, thanks for the points again. Glitch, you better get busy because I'm coming after you

No I dont think my posts remain private from the outside world, I have looked up my name before and TCS has come up with my username and whatever title of the thread I have up or whatever replies I have up. I think the premium lounge is more private but even that is able to get out if someone lets it out. I have read the privacry statement but only because it was a katkwiz and we were trying to find it or something and I looked at it then. I like the fact that the cat site doesn't disclose information to third parties but if they wanted to they could find it, nothing on the internet is really as private as we all like to think it is. No I will not use one of the secret words today because marienjela already answered with her two pages and there has to be some in there and luvmycat1 already answered and Im thinking she got one too, so being late today I never really know for sure! I need to be the first person on here to post is always the best, if you think of something later you can edit it in!
But I doubt that will happen so it sucks but Ill get over it Im quite sure!!

well, the ones in the PL do, since it's password protected... but i've found posts of mine via search engines in the past. security - well, i don't worry too much about it - my passwords are all alpha-numeric. i've never bothered to check out the privacy statement before - i think i'm safe, tho
i have no earthly idea whether i'm going to use one of the secret words or not - i guess i'll find out tomorrow!
