Hi, today i got a cat that is about 9 months old and i was wondering if i should get him to the vet on monday to neuter him, and if the fact that i took him right after getting him, won't affect his relationship with me. Do u think I should keep him for a while with me before i do this? My main concern is that it is spring and i don't want him to get lost by going after females. Thank u so much for ur help.

Well, that depends on the cat really. If he seems to be adjusting fine, eats, plays and lets you pet him, then I wouldn't wait with it. He's old enough to start spraying and when he does it will be a lot harder to stop...

By the way, I'm moving this thread to the behavior forum.

Yes, I would take him on Monday. The bonding really wont be affected with him going in for a day or a day and a half. The other benifit is that they usually calm down a little and are more willing to sit still on your lap. If the vet gives the okay that he is healthy enough for surgery, I would get it done.

I would have him nuetered right away to avoid any chance that he decide to start marking his territory - when I got my oriental Beta, he went from the show hall to the vet to be neutered and then to my home. Neutering is very quick and easy - it is day surgery and he will be home that night - he will be bouncing around the evening you bring him home.

Usually, we neuter our rescues between 4-6 months which means you are overdue. This prevents spraying. He won't hold it against you, I promise!
