It's been a completely crazy morning.
DH and I were awakened at about 4 am by the sound of Forest running around like crazy in the living room. Forest has cerebellar hyperplasia so when he runs around it sounds like a herd of about 30 cats, but this sounded different than when he's playing with a toy or something. DH got up to investigate and when he looked over the landing something BIG went whizzing by his head. After getting our glasses and some lights on we could see that it was a bat. Both cats were going NUTS...they figured this was the best toy ever. I was able to get the window in our front door open and after a few passes, the bat flew out the window unharmed...much to the dismay of Tailer and Forest.
That would have been enough for one morning, but it got even more interesting. DH and I were having coffee and talking in front of the picture window when I noticed a bird fly out of a tree and land in the middle of the busy street in front of our house. A second later, a car came and it looked like the bird was hit. I was pretty upset having witnessed that, but a moment later it looked like the bird was still moving. So DH got dressed and went out to investigate for me and either move it out of the street or, if necessary, end its suffering. When he went to investigate he found that it was a parakeet! And it appeared to be unharmed! DH stopped traffic and picked up the poor little thing and we dug out the bird cage from the garage. We hung him up in the basement well out of the reach of the cats. He's exhausted and terrified, but he's perked up some since this morning. I gave him some seed and he's started chowing down so he's pretty hungry, too. We called the police but nobody reported the little guy missing. It appears we have a new pet parakeet.
So we've had a lost kitten, a bat, and a parakeet all in the last week! We're convinced it must be some kind of crazy sign. DH complained that it seems we're destined to have a third pet. I told him to cheer up...it could have been the bat!
