The six month long season will draw to a close at the end of this month. A fierce battle exists to see who will be the top seed in the playoffs. Glitch continued to pad her lead for the top seed spot by using the word wrong. Laureen continued to distance herself from 5th place by using the word should. Remember, the top 4 seeded players all have the advantage in the first round of playoffs. However, I remember the $#@!^ NY Giants winning the superbowl being the lowest seeded team. Yes, I am a Cowboy fan. Words not used were calendar, tomorrow and sucks. Yes, sucks. I actually thought for sure somebody would use that.

Today's KatKwiz was about signing off to clear cookies.

Have you ever signed off and on to clear your cookies? Do you actually know what cookies are and why you might want to clear them? Have you ever had a problem with TCS that clearing your cookies has solved? Do you stay logged on to TCS 24 hours a day? Did you know that signing off would clear your cookies?

Nope, I've never signed off to clear my cookies. Usually once I log in on the desktop, it signs me out automatically after like five minutes or so. I've never had a problem on TCS before that dealt with me clearing my cookies, so I never had to sign off and on before to solve the problem. I don't stay logged in to TCS 24/7 on the desktop computer. On my laptop, it keeps me signed in all the time, but my laptop usually only goes on in the evening after I get home from work so my boyfriend and I both can use our own computers for whatever we want.

I never did know that signing off would clear my cookies. I did know about cookies though and regularly clear them from my computer to speed it up. You need to periodically clear all the cookies and defrag your computer to make it run faster. I never have thought to clear the cookies as a cure for any problems I might have with TCS. The most recent problems I have has been with the server, not the cookies. I guess I do stay signed in 24 hours a day since I didn't even think about logging off

Thanks for the points again Lee, since I didnt win yesterday's KatKwery it's a good thing I chimed in this morning, but I gotta tell ya, I would trade all my KatKwiz points for the Kwery win
This *sucks*
No really, thanks - I had a feeling I wasnt hitting on the word yesterday.

And of course, I remember that Giants' season last year - hubby is a *sucky* Cowboys fan too
I like the Giants, but I despise the Patriots more, so when the lowest seeded team rose up and WHOMPED all over the almost-undefeated Patriots - I was dancing in the streets!

BUT what I remember MORE is when the wild card STEELERS won Superbowl XL two years earlier, after winning SEVEN-STRAIGHT games in a row to get there!!! Oh yeah, I said it - I'm all for the Black & Gold!!! Now the truth is out. How me and hubby ever managed to get hitched I'll never know
Can you imagine us in my living room 10 years ago when the Steelers suffered a traumatic loss to the Cowgirls?

Oh yeah, my house is always split during football season, my two sons, middle daughter and I are avid Steelers fans, my oldest daughter somehow became a :coughs: Browns fan, and then there there is my judgment-impaired Hubby and his clone of a daughter who are fans of the Rowdy Boys. Yes, you should see us in the stores at Christmastime, the cashiers look at us like we're buying stock in NFL. Either that or they think we're indecisive turncoats!

However, if you ever want a peak into the camaraderie in our house, DESPITE our ball-club-differences, just ask me to show you some family pictures. A few years ago my son was in the hospital over Christmastime and the Steelers came to the Children's Hospital to visit the kids. We got to meet Troy Polamalu (my hero) Sean Morey and Shawn Nua. Joshua wouldnt go to the towering players despite their coaxing, and Jon ended up having to hold him in the picture
I love it! But I gotta say, I was SO relieved when I realized he had left his NFL hat at home in Erie. I cherish the pictures of my 6-foot tall hubby standing like a dwarf with these staggering players holding my bald son, in front of a HUGE Steelers logo

Life is sweet.

Anyway, back to the point on hand.... Until today, I have never logged off to clear the HTTP cookies on my computer. However, I clear the cookies, cache and history manually all the time and actually just did so yesterday. I always try to keep my data clean so as not to slow my computer down. Also to avoid compromising the security on my laptop or PC.

I know enough about the un-edible "magic" cookies, to grasp that they are supposed to help the computer by holding and storing bits of information (pieces of text) about sites I have visited in the past. Like when I shop online and it remembers what I've put in my shopping cart several sessions or visits later. Or when it stores and remembers my usernames and passwords. But cookies (in particular tracking cookies or third-party cookies) can also compromise your privacy and the security on your system, and sneak pop-up ads on your system. So it is important to keep them under control. I realize cookies were invented during the dial-up ages when speed was more of an issue, but with the newer technology of broadband and DSL, they dont play as much of an important role anymore. In fact a lot of people disable their cookies, only changing their settings when sites require them.

As I said earlier I just did spring-cleaning on my laptop yesterday, clearing the temp files from both browsers, Mozilla and IE. Remember when I was participating in yesterday's Kwiz I reported a lagging connection. After I cleaned my stuff up, my performance was improved immensely! As for having trouble with TheCateSite specifically regarding my cookies, I dont think I have had a problem. I did have difficulty signing on to TCS a few weeks (maybe a month) back, but it didnt have anything to do with my settings or clearing my private data. I know that is was specific to this site because after several failed attempts from my lap top I tried to sign on from my home computer without success. I thought the whole site was down, imagine my surprise when I found out life was still going on here without me! I thought maybe my problem was my firewall, but it turned out it was the site after all, as I wasnt the only one having struggles, but I was just not lucky enough to sign on at with perfect timing like others. Although I cant figure out why, when at times I was hitting the refresh button like it was a morphine drip!

As if it is any surprise, I do stay logged on to TCS 24/7, sort of. I mean, I dont log off, and as long as my laptop is on I am on. But I know that when I'm working on something else I become inactive on the site. I once stayed up late to watch my clock roll over, but I was in the Arcade at the time. An hour or so later I realized my clock should have reset, only to learn that it didnt because I was away from the forums. Even though I was in the Arcade, I wasnt active on the forums and although I was technically logged on, I wasnt "on" the site. If that made any sense.

And obviously I did know that signing off would clear the cookies as I was the winner of today's Kwiz. But I didnt answer it right away. When I first seen the question I was excited because today was the first day I could go back to winning, but I was surprised that no one had answered the question yet. I knew that the answer had something to do with cookies or caches, but didnt want to throw an educated guess out there again right away, so I surfed around the site for a little bit trying to look for the TCS-proof that I would need. I first went to the technical support forums, then searched Lee's posts from the past month, and after not having any luck substantiating my assumption with TCS proof, I finally decided to just log off and see if the answer was there, and sure enough it was. I think I answered the question nearly an hour after I originally seen it.

Anyway, thanks again for the win Lee. I already transferred the points into my bank
I took my advice the other day and set my homepage to my bank, so I am reminded instantly to transfer my points daily. No more lost interest points for me. I guess I've gone on enough, if I dont win tomorrow, the blisters on the tips of my fingers arent going to be happy

no, i've never bothered. i do know what cookies are, & why i might want to clear them... if i ever have an issue, that would be the 1st thing i tried. since i've never had a problem [yet] there's been no reason to log off. i stay logged on all the time, but the computer's not always on. i did know that signing off would clear my cookies - when you were having the problem, i remember that's how you solved it.
thanks for the points!

I always just clear all the cookies out of my browser. I haven't had problems with TCS specifically but I've had interenet problems that clearing the cookies has solved. I stay logged into TCS all the time.

WooHoo!! A fellow cowboys fan!! They've been my team since I figured out what football was!! Thanks for the points by the way!!

I dont think I have ever signed off of TCS on purpose! The one time I accidently did sucked because I forgot my password and it took me forever to figure out what it was! I know how to clear the cookies on my computer, its not that hard really! I dont usually do it though unless I absolutely have to for one reason or another! I think cookies are a way for your computer to remember things but I am not totally sure on that! I like my computer to remember to keep me signed in to things! It works better and faster for me! Ive never had an issue or problem that clearing my cookies helped on TCS, on the daily basis I dont have any problem with The cat site except there has been an occasional day where the site was running slowly but I didn't even think to clear my cookies to help it out, plus then I would have had to log in to everything I am normally logged into already! I did not know that signing off cleared your cookies for TCS that is new to me! I didn't think or expect that it could even, or know how it does that! Im getting very excited about the playoffs and am still just hoping I make it, with a month left I still think anything could happen and probably will! Marienjela looks to be catching up to everyone rather quickly so its anyones race! It looks like theres a tie for second place right now!! Let the fun begin! I can't wait! Im also wondering, do you change the katkwery page color and stuff on there just to confuse me?? Because it works! I check on there today and everythings a green color, I dont remember it being green before... So thats interesting!!

Thanks for the new information, I guess I really do learn something new everyday!! Have an awesome day everyone!!
