A question for my knowledgeable friends at TCS:

Can you substitute espresso for coffee in a drip coffee pot? If so, what would the water/espresso ratio be?

I have some great espresso (was a gift) from Hawaii and need to make coffee for a crowd. Can I use it or should I buy regular coffee? Thanks in advance!

p.s. I don't have an espresso machine.

Espresso coffee is ground really fine and would probably plug up your coffee filter. Espresso coffee is meant to be forced through a filter using pressurized water, a drip machine doesn't have the capacity to force water through the coffee and filter.

So my recommendation is to go and buy a small can of drip coffee.

I'm not sure the ratio, but I know you can make it in a regular coffee maker. It won't hurt the machine, but it MAY hurt your nervous system. My DH did it a few years ago by mistake, and thought the coffee tasted a bit strong...he was awake for a day and a half! Now, he makes the coffee at night and sets the machine for morning brewing instead of trying it first thing in the morning when he is still half asleep.

I would say cut it in half, but you probably should wait for someone else to answer...just to be safe.

Or, I could be wrong!
