As I mention in several other posts my sister is very active in several community and agricultural service groups in our area...Because of this she loves to volunteer me for this, that and the other thing..
I don't really mind because I don't have a lot of time to participate on my own and this sort of scoots me to to the front of the line on occasions.

Today she volunteer me to be a judge for a vegetable show at one of the Agricultural fairs that is on this weekend..

I have to say I had a blast and got to see and taste some of the best veggies I seen in a long-time..

The five groups I was involved with were Beefsteak Tomato's, Cabbage, Early Potato's, Pickling cucumbers and a mixed root basket which included beets, turnip, carrots and Spanish Onions..

And might I say that boy these people take their gardening seriously...

They have a very strict criteria that they follow so yes I do KNOW what to look for or I wouldn't have been chosen..

I took a class years ago for judging at fairs but there are plenty of people who currently do this and no rooom for new-comers!!

I know how serious veg growing can be when I was growing Atlantic Giant pumpkins for competition!! It was very time consuming (but fun).
