One of the cats in the rescue is going to the vet tomorrow because they think he has Bartonella. I am not familiar with this and was wondering if I need to be concerned because he spent 3 weeks here at my house with Riley until he went to petsmart 3 weeks ago.

Any input?

I don't have any personal knowledge or experience, but from what I've read, it's the disease that causes cat scratch fever in humans. It's very treatable for the cat. I couldn't tell from what I read if it's contagious to other cats, though I did discover it's carried by fleas. If your kitty has been vaccinated for Bartonella, I'd think s/he's safe, but you might want to talk to your vet to be sure.

Buddy keeps getting gum infections and the vet thinks he might have Bartonella. I had him tested yesterday and it takes 3 weeks to get the results. It's very expensive to have them tested but it is treatable with antibiotics. It is contagious to other cats plus humans can get cat scratch fever from it.
