Hello All,

New problem, looking for some advice...

I have two cats, have had them several years. Recently, one of them has been poop-ing in the kitchen sink. The cat box is clean, with new litter. Yet one of them (not sure which one) has been ignoring the box and prefers the sink instead. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Could it be time to replace the old plastic litter box? Could it be holding odors only the cats can sense?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

It could be that you need a new box but I'd have the cats examined by a vet. Generally, urinating is a behavior issue not defecating. It would be worth a check up just to be safe.

What are you washing the box with ? If you are using bleach or any other harsh chemical, that tends to repel them. Even once the box has been well rinsed cats can still smell the chemicals.

Just plain old dish soap and hot water is best. We tend to disinfect the box for *our sake* because we think ... eewww this needs to be sterilized, but harsh chemicals alter the "ph" balance (for lack of a better term) and the cats don't like it.

Also might not hurt to get kitty checked by the vet, he could be trying to tell you something.
