Yeah, supposed to be 106 (41C) here and it was 102 already. Today is the first soccer practice for Ben from 4:00 to 5:15. I am going to wait at my health club in the air conditioning.

It's 92 degrees in Oakland and I'm HATING it! The cats are miserable and they get upset when I try to pat them down with wet towels. I can't wait until autumn rolls around.

Fall will be much nicer.
I hope you all have A/C.
Statement as of 5:33 am PDT on August 28, 2008

... Hot and dry weather over the interior of northern California...

Very hot daytime temperatures are expected today and Friday with
maximum temperatures in the Central Valley surpassing the century
mark. Maximum temperatures in the mountains will be mostly in the
80s and 90s with some areas surpassing the century mark. High
temperatures in the Interior Valley are forecast to top out in the
105 to 113 degree range in the Interior Valley today and
Friday... although most areas should experience their hottest
temperatures today. Some of the populated mountain areas may
experience temperatures from 98 to 106 today and Friday. These
temperatures may result in record or near record highs today and
Friday.

Although it will be very hot today and Friday... humidity levels
will be relatively low and heat indices will remain lower than the
ambient air temperatures.

Fortunately... the dry airmass over the area will allow overnight
temperatures to lower to relatively comfortable levels. Minimum
temperatures in the 60s and 70s are expected across much of the
region while many of the higher mountain valleys will cool into
the upper 40s and 50s. Lighter north winds over the northern
Sacramento tonight should allow overnight temperatures to
eventually cool a little more rapidly than they did Wednesday
night.

Relief from the heat is expected over the weekend as high pressure
weakens. Residents of northern California should monitor the
latest weather information concerning the hot weather.

Some record high temperatures for Thursday August 28th...

Redding... ... ... ... ... .111
Red Bluff... ... ... ... ..109
downtown Sacramento... .105
Sacramento executive... 103
Stockton... ... ... ... ... 106
Modesto... ... ... ... ... .105
Chester... ... ... ... ... ..94
Quincy... ... ... ... ... ..100
Blue Canyon... ... ... ... .88
Lakeport... ... ... ... ... 104

The Lakeport data is from the years 1920-2000.

Unfortunately, we don't have air conditioning in this apartment. The landlord is too cheap and tells all the tenants to put fans in the window. Naturally, that doesn't really help because it just blows hot air in the apartment. Plus, we live in the top floor and that means the heat rises to our unit.

When we lived in the Bay Area we didnt have A/C either and lived on the 2nd floor. I bet your place is terrible inside right now. They were cheap like your place and didnt care. Fans just blow hot air around the rooms.

Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 4:44 am PDT on August 29, 2008

... Hot and dry weather over the interior of northern California
for one more day...

Very hot daytime temperatures are expected today with maximum
temperatures in the Central Valley surpassing the century mark.
Maximum temperatures in the mountains will be mostly in the 80s
and 90s with some areas surpassing the century mark. High
temperatures in the Interior Valley are forecast to top out in the
105 to 111 degree range in the Interior Valley... possibly nearing
or breaking record high temperatures in some locations. Some of
the populated mountain areas may experience temperatures from 98
to 106 today.

Although it will be very hot today... humidity levels will be
relatively low and heat indices will remain lower than the ambient
air temperatures.

Relief from the heat is expected during the weekend as high
pressure weakens... and a strong cold front and upper level trough
move over the area. Strong northerly winds behind the cold front
will usher in much cooler air. Maximum temperatures Sunday and
Monday are forecast to be some 15 to 30 degrees cooler than today
over much of the area.

Well, today was supposed to be 102 around here. I was watching the Weather Channel and it revised the forecast to 99. Hah! I was driving and the car thermometer read 108. Given that the pavement may contribute to the temperature, it did fluctuate, so that even if the car is off by 5 degrees the temp is still 103! Later in the day, the forecast went back up to 102.

If sarahp and blast-off-girl are in the 90's then it is REALLY hot in the Bay Area because those places are usually cooler than where meowers and me live.

We are supposed to have a cooling trend move in but I wonder about it now.

Pointing window fans to blow the air out during the day, and pull air in at night, works much, much better.
Stovetop exhaust fans even help a bit.

I think it's finally cooled down today quite a bit! When I woke up, I saw the clouds in the sky and I knew it was going to be a good day!
