Diatomaceous Earth

Actually, this isn't about the kitties! I was reading about diatomaceous earth (researching, really) because I placed an order based on the advice of the wonderful folks here at TCS so that I could finally get rid of my pesky ant problem, and I found several articles that raved about the health benefits of PEOPLE taking diatomaceous earth as a supplement.

Has anyone else heard of this? Have you tried it?

I've heard of it but never tried it. They sell different grades of DE - some of it being human grade (e.g. ingestible) and other grades for things like pool filters.

I've heard of people feeding it to their pets to help with intestinal parasites. I wouldn't ever do that without asking a vet first. But it left me wondering if, after living with critters for the last 40 years, I should take a nip of it once in a while. I'm sure I've gotten something from them after all this time.
