I just got a call about my hours!

Thursday I go for a 4 hour training session in the afternoon.

Starting next week I'll be working 9am to 3pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday just to get my feet wet. Then I'll be doing full days from 8am to 4:15pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and 8am to noon on Fridays.

I can't believe that this is really happening!!

Thanks! Yeah it's not a bad schedule. I wish nursing hours were really like that though!

I'm terrified!! Not so much about sitting in medical records and transcribing charts, but that I'm getting closer to my actual back to work program as an RN where I'll be dealing with sick people again. Taking 4 years off of nursing is not like taking 4 years off of job where you type or answer phones. I'm not so worried about the skill aspect of the job IE: working pumps, changing dressings, starting IVs. I'm more concerned about the intellectual aspect of it. Like will I recognize the signs and symptoms of a particular disease process? Will I twig to someone's subtle complaints that would normally tell me they are going into shock. Stuff like that.

Not really sure, but I really have no choice. I need to get 368 more hours before the end of the year or I lose my nursing license and can't renew it next year until I take a year long refresher course. And there is no way I'm going to let that happen!

The work trial is basically a sitting position, so when I'm not going for coffee or lunch or to the toilet, I'll be sitting. I do that at home so I think it will be ok. The actual test will be when I get back into bedside nursing where I'll be on my feet and moving around more. I suspect I'll be living on Ibuprophen for my back.

Nothing ever seems to be as bad or as scary as we think it will be. Youll be fine I bet.
