This is the second night in a row that I CANNOT fall sleep. I just can't get comfortabe long enough to fall asleep. Last night I went and slept on the couch just so I wouldn't wake Travis......UGH!

What do you guys do when you can't get comfy?

Are you having problems getting comfortable because something hurts? Or is it just your body won't relax? I know that you're planning your wedding, so is it that you can't shut your mind down enough to relax? I was like that while planning my wedding, even when it was months away. What helped me was melatonin. It's NOT a sleeping pill. It's actually the same enzyme that your brain produces that makes you sleepy, but if your mind is still active, sometimes your brain needs a little help shutting down. It's over the counter, very safe for most people, non-narcotic, and non-habit forming. That and a hot bath right before bed and I could normally fall asleep with no problem.

Now, if it's because something actually hurts, that's when you need to see a doctor and find out what is going on and what you can do.

Courtney i totally understand! Saturday I couldn't fall asleep till 5am and last night I didn't fall asleep till 3am. I was just wired both nights and couldn't sleep!

I'm going to try and get to bed soon tonight though- hopefully we both can get some good sleep!

Can you maybe have some hot tea or something like that to help make you sleepy?

I have a water bed. It's hard to not get comfy, unless it's really hot out, then I just sleep uncovered with the fan on.

But I can relate to insomnia. I was so tired on Sunday night at dinner time that I wanted to go to bed at 5:30pm. I knew if I did that I would wake up at 11pm and be up for the night so I stayed up. I caught a second wind and at 4:30am Monday I was still looking at the clock!!
I had to get up at 7:30am. Normally I would nap in the afternoon, but today I couldn't because I had to go to the chiropractor around the time I would be napping, so by the time 7pm rolled around I was falling asleep in my chair. I caved and went to bed. Like clockwork I work up at 12:10am and have been up ever since

I hope you manage to get some sleep.

Okay, I know this sounds stupid but...

As I was going through nursing school, I had an instructor teach relaxation exercises, and anytime I can't sleep I just do them.

Could you share them with us?

Well you start with your feet and your point your toes forward for 12 seconds and then let them go..you will feel the tension release, then tighten the muscles in your legs for 12 seconds and release...again you will feel the tension release, then you stomach muscles. then your arm muscles, then clench your teeth together for 12 seconds and release...feeling the tension release, then raise your eyebrows for 12 seconds and release....now that your entire body is relaxed, concentrate on your breathing, breath in 1,2,3,4,5,6,breath out 6,5,4,3,2,1....you will fall asleep.

I do a version of that sometimes (didn't even think of that!). I don't actually tense everything up...I just imagine each part of my body relaxing to the point it becomes "one" with the mattress (I know that sounds stupid). I start with my feet and move up until my body is actually limp. It really does work. With me, it works better laying on my back, then when I'm ready to sleep I get into a more comfortable position.

No, nothing hurts. I just could NOT get comfy. I started this thing a while ago writing anything I think about at night down so I don't have any clutter in my mind at night.

I ended up going to bed at midnight on the couch AGAIN. I woke up at 4am, 5am,6am, 7am and 9am and stayed up to get ready for work. I am sooo tired!!!

Thank you for all your tips. HOPEFULLY I won't have to use them tonight!

Nikki how did you sleep?!

I sure know what you are going through. I will get these episodes where no matter what I do, I just can't sleep. I will be so darn tired at work and then driving home, but when it's time to sleep, I am wide awake. God I hate sleepless nights. Here are some huge to get you to have some nice peaceful and restful sleep
