This is probably not the right place for this post, but it's the area with the most traffic, so this is where I'm putting it!

I have a few questions about my Lily, she was born on St. Paddy's Day, and has been wormed once, and had an Advantage treatment from the family I got her from.

Question #1 is When does she need to go to the Vet for shots, etc?

Question #2 is When do her eyes start showing their "true color"?

Question #3 is Is it O.K. to give her a few table scraps? And if so, whats acceptable and what isn't? (she's a little piggy and is constantly begging for my food!)

Thanks in advance,
Cleo

I really don't know for sure, but we got our two male cats neutered and got their shots, etc when they were about 9 months old. I don't know if you can get her shots earlier, but chances are you can.

There is a thread... Ahh... where is it... somebody out there
knows what I am talking about.

It's huge and it talks about the food their kitties love
to eat. It also has some foods that cats should stay away from.
I am too lazy to find the thread but it is in the health and nutrition forum.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

this is okay, as long as it's in moderation, just use your best judgement

well, i know mine went in for their shots when they were to be spayed/nuetered, and that was at about 6 months old,
this is also around the time i started to notice their eyes changing colour, i think

that or a few months after

Should you feed your cat table scraps be aware of foods that can be harmful to pets. Chocolate is a big no. It can cause your cats heart rate to speed up which can cause heart failure. Onions can cause enemia. Also don't feed them too much of the table scraps or it may one day be all they will eat, and it's very fattening. Over weight cats can and often do develop diabetes.

You guys are terrific!

I knew about chocolate, and that too much dairy makes more work for me!:icecream: not to mention the smell after only 1 day of not cleaning the potty box!
. But I wasnt aware of onions, or that the first Vet visit was so far away! Thank you for the info!
So far I have given Lily (in moderation) baked potato (with sour cream!
), steak, chicken (chow mein
), hot dog bites, yogurt, milk (from my cereal), tomato juice (she loved it), and the weirdest thing she ate and liked was a piece of lettuce from my salad...complete with Caesar dressing!
I have yet to find a food she wont eat, although I haven't tried fruit (yet)...if this keeps up I'll have to change her nickname from LilBelly to LilPiggy...just kidding, I only give her a bite or 2, and she isn't Fat, she's "Big Boned" (Eric Cartman reference!)

Thanks again!

My vet recommended that my foster kittens come in at 6, 9 and 12 weeks for shots and check-ups. I'd be scared of letting a kitten go too long without shots, especially if it's going to have any contact with other cats.

6,9 and 12 are about right. I go with 8,12 and 16. Weather you believe in vaccines or not it is very important to get at least the first set and then boosters the next year. Kittens especially need them because all it would take is to pet someone elses kitty and bring something home.

That was an awesome thread Blue...long, but well worth the time. Thank You!

I really learned a lot reading it, although the post on garlic being bad scared me, cuz I had just given Lily potato chips with GARLIC dip!:laughing2 She adores it, and licks my fingers clean afterwards!
Then I read on and saw it was a mistake, its Onion thats bad...whew!

Thanks for directing me there, it really cleared up a lot of questions...and Lily says thanks too
she was afraid she wasn't gonna get anymore munchies!

p.s. Cagney won't touch ANY people food but mashed potato's, and if I try to give her anything, she backs away like its alive!

I don't know much about cats eating "people" food, but after Sasha had her kittens, the vet reccomended feeding her people food for extra protein. she loves turkey, but wouldn't touch the cottage cheese, or regular cheese we gave her. Giving them 'people' food can be good for them, under the right circumstances.
