So I've mentioned before about how the past six months or so my cat Sophie has been urinating all over the house, on our clothing, bedding, furniture, ANYTHING.

So basically, I am about 98% positive it is an emotional issue, she has VERY high anxiety for a cat.

Sophie is a male, so sorry for the confusion with the adverbs here......so we spent sixty dollars yesterday to go have a vet check up and the vet said before he will put her on any medication he needs a FULL check up, including all the blood work, urine samples, and checking the penis for crystals or whatever.

We scheduled the entire procedure for tomorrow, where the vet will put her in the tank and run all the tests to make sure there are no PHYSICAL problems.

This was fine with my husband yesterday and then today he decided to absolute forbid me from spending the $500 to have this done.

I don't know what to do..... Sophie has had multiple vet check ups over the past two years of her life for various reasons and has never displayed an infection or anything besides oral herpes, which we give L-Lysine for.

Like I said, I'm pretty positive it's come to the point where Sophie just needs medication but I can't get medication without a vet ruling out all other possibilities, and getting my husband to spend this money is not going to happen.........he said he would rather put the cat down than continue to spend money on these problems.

I've tried feliway, which by itself is expensive, I've tried all the advice given to me, I don't know what to do!!!

Please someone help me, offer some words of advice here.......I have no one to turn to that doesn't ALSO have the opinion "put the cat down".

I REFUSE to put down my baby when the problem is fixable, but obviously we AND her cant' live like this!!!

My heart is breaking for you here. Obviously you care about this cat. I can't offer any advice, because if I were in your husband's shoes, I'd say, we'll try this one last thing, and if it doesn't work, we'll need to take other steps. There is a point where virtually all of us have to decide that enough is enough.

The ONLY thing I can think of is that your cat just doesn't like being around other cats. How does he get along with them?

I once heard a cat expert say that every additional cat in a home doubles the chances of having problems like this. I can easily see how it would happen. Maybe rehoming your cat in a less stressful place is the only answer. I don't know, but I hope you find a solution.

I do not know what to tell you because I had a male Yoshi that did that until the day he was Pts last Jan. My Husband wanted me to get rid of him but I refused. I was told he had 6 months to two years to live but he only lasted 8 months. I do not belive yoshi peed all over because he was sick. We were going to try feliway but he had to be pts. I would let the vet check him and see if there is a reason he does it. We tried everything with Yoshi but he never did stop. I hope your cat stops.

There's no place like home
If you don't rule out a medical condition, you shouldn't simply treat it as a behavioral issue. Talk to your vet again. See if there are any inexpensive treatments you can do without running the tests that will not cause Sophie harm. If there are crystals, a urinary tract infection or cysistus, often just a change in diet with a prescription of antibiotics can bring relief. Antibiotics won't help crystals, but will reduce the inflamation in the bladder which is often secondary to crystals. Switch to wet food if you can, and add a water fountain.

Then go back and reread the threads on inappropriate urination. You might need to confine Sophie to a small bathroom for a while to get him used to the litter box. Get a urine neutralizer and treat every place in your house that he has used as a litter box. If you don't get the smell out, he will return there.

I think this is a good idea! You never a change of diet could be very beneficial, what is Sophie eating now?

How does your husband get along with Sophie? I'm just fishing, but is it possible there might be some kind of connection?

Yesterday your husband initially agreed, but now he is changing his mind. I know $500 is *ton* of money to have to spend and I think we can all sympathize, but running those tests could be beneficial in getting to the root of the problem. Who knows it could be something that is easily treatable.

Your baby needs your help please ask your husband why he is changing his mind now and ask him to please reconsider.

One last thing, and again I'm fishing, but how does Sophie respond to his name? I have heard that some cats won't respond to their names until they have the "right one" and I'm wondering if there is some kind of connection with the peeing issues.

Again I would not rule out getting those tests done. Putting Sophie down should not be an option, unless she is terminally ill or something and even then I don't know if I would be able to put mine down in that type of sitaution.

I wish I had more to offer. Please keep us posted.
