I just went to take an Excedrin b/c I feel a headache coming on and I want to nip it in the bud before it gets severe, and I noticed there was only two left in the bottle, which was almost entirely full about a week ago -- which means my s/o has been eating them like candy again.
He has been warned repeatedly NOT to be taking more than one or two of them a day by his doctors, b/c they have already caused him to having severe bleeding ulcers - which he was hospitalized for twice now - one of those times being not too long ago. But yet, he is still taking them like they're causing him no harm. I realize that he's been in a lot of pain, and I can sure relate to that and sympathize with him b/c of my own back problems, but I don't understand how he can be so darn stubborn & stupid.
It's like he thinks he's Superman or something, and is made of steel. I just don't know what it's gonna take to get through to him: you would think that he would have learned his lesson ny now..

How the heck do you get through to someone like that?!

I am sorry you are having to deal with this. Unfortunately some people are just too stubborn to listen. Is there anyone else you know that he would be more likely to listen too. Does he have a friend you would feel comfortable approaching for help. Maybe hearing from one of his friends would help. The only thing I can think of is for you to hide your headache medicine from him. I hope someone else has some other suggestions for you.

I know how you feel, it's frustrating isn't it? My DH is like that with Bufferin. He hasn't had an ulcer from it (yet), but it won't surprise me.

Maybe you could try hiding the excedrin bottle? I know he could go out and buy his own, but maybe if they aren't right there for him to get, he won't take so many?

First, keep the meds that he's not supposed to have where he can't find them......buy something that won't upset his ulcers and leave that as his only choice

As far as dealing with it...good luck, as my husband would say. Truthfully, your husband sounds a lot like he's in denial about the seriousness of his condition. I tend to be the same way with my diabetes, but with me its more of keeping me on my meds and out of the sweets, lol!

Can you get some 'less harmful' meds for your SO?

Perhaps even simply keep Excedrin in a safe place, just for yourself?

I would talk to your SO's doc, and find out if there is anything less harmful that he can take, even if it has to be prescribed, it will be better than him popping excedrin, which by the way can cause 'rebound pain (typically headaches) if taken too many consecutive times in a day...
