Hey all, I just found a lump at the joint on my wedding ring finger where it connects to the hand. Naturally, with all sorts of tumors running in my family, I'm FREAKED OUT! I've looked online and think it might just be a ganglion cyst, but have any of you had one?

If so, what'd it feel like/look like?

I had one in the joint of my thumb where it joins the hand, but mine was a bone cyst that was destroying a specific bone in the thumb joint.

Your best bet is to make an appointment with your doctor.

My 19 y/o daughter has had 2 Ganglian cysts on the back of her right hand for several years. She's been checked by our Dr. a couple of times because they do cause her some occasional pain. We even took her to a specialist who advised against surgical removal because of the possible complications (possible nerve damage, muscle damage). She's had them drained and had steroid shots, but they've returned each time. She's done the "Bible removal method"----basically smashing a large, heavy book onto her hand to "pop" the cysts, but of course they still return eventually.
If I remember correctly, the specialist told her to take ibuprofen when necessary and forget about the cysts. He said that even with surgery there was a chance they would re-occur.

Ditto.

Truer words have never been spoken. I know it is informative to automatically try to find something similar to read about on the Internet when we have a problem, but honestly, you will find yourself in just about every set of symptoms there are out there. Consult with your doctor and if necessary, have him refer you to a specialist.

I had a ganglion cyst removed from my left wrist many years ago ... it was causing me pain and I could no longer use my left hand as I should. My surgeon tried to needle-aspirate the cyst but it came back within two weeks, so I had it removed. I have had no lasting or permanant damage from the cyst or the removal procedure.

Same here. I had one on my wrist that kept coming back and it was causing a lot of pain. After having it out, it hasn't come back and my wrist is fine.

Cysts are really not that big a deal.

I've had one on my left hand since 1992. I used to be self-conscious of it, but now I just ignore it. It doesn't hurt or bother me in any way.

I was actually freaking out because I was worried it might be cancerous/some kind of parasitic twin coming out of my finger!

I had a doctor's appointment; It actually is a Ganglion Cyst. It doesn't hurt, I just wanted to see if anyone else had them and what it was like, or if the symptoms were different for them.. My family has a history of tumors, not in the hands, but still, so.. I'm very paranoid. Everything is fine tho'.
