I posted here several weeks ago regarding my frustration with my current vet's unwillingness to try anything different with my herpes positive cat, Hannah. Within the past week, she's had another flare up. She's somewhat lethargic, has decreased appetite, is congested, and sneezing with colored discharge. I know that if I take her back to our regular vet, he'll just tell me, "We've tried everything." and give me the same medication (that hasn't worked) again. So, I've been doing some research and have found a vet not far from our house that includes holistic treatments as well as traditional medicine.
We have an appt at 3:10 this afternoon. Any special questions I should ask?

I would ask for advice about how to boost your cat's immune system in the long-term to reduce the frequency and likelihood of flare-ups, possibly ask about the use of L-lysine as a food supplement. I would also ask about techniques to help reduce stress, as that can be a factor in flare-ups too - not saying that your cat is suffering abnormal stress, but a holistic vet is a good person to ask about ways to keep normal stress for your cat to an absolute minimum, there are flower remedies and the like which could be of use.

I hope the appointment goes well and you get the help you need

Thanks, Epona. She's already been getting lysine daily since she came to live with us 3 years ago, but I don't know how effective it's been. I know we need to get her over this flare up and work on her immune system. If we can boost her immune system, then I think that should decrease the flare ups. I use Feliway plug-ins and know that when they run out, she's a bit worse. I have more of those on order, but will ask about other things to help with that as well. I've used Bach's Rescue Remedy with my other kitty before, but that has too much alcohol in it for my liking. I'm really on a fact-finding mission to get the best for my kitty.
