Today is his birthday he would have been 62 if he had of lived...though hes not my biological father he is the man that raised me and legally adopted making me his. I loved that man more then anything in this world and still do!!!

I wrote these for my dad what do you guys think?

As I hear the cry of my mother
I feel instantly out of place,
As they break the bad news to me gently
Salty tears stream down my face.
I couldn't believe what they had told me
It couldn't really be true,
As I quietly held my head in my hands
I didn't know what to do
Was I suppose to break down?
Get up and walk out the door?
The person I'd known since I was born
Was not here any more
Always there when I needed him
A caring shoulder to cry on,
Trustworthy, Honest, graceful and kind
Someone that you could rely on
Now all that is left are memories
The good and fun times that we had
The man I would have done anything for,
My dad!

and this one is my favorite!

Rain,
Spouting,
Streaming,
Pouring,
In this gloomy place.

Tears,
Flowing,
Escaping,
Falling,
Down my face.

Casket,
Descending,
Lowering,
Plunging,
Deep into the ground.

Family,
Praying,
Comforting,
Gathering,
Close around.

Minds,
Questioning,
Wondering,
Asking,
Why?

People,
Thinking,
Hoping,
Wishing,
He were still alive.

God,
Understanding,
Recognizing,
Knowing,
This was best.

Angels,
Laughing,
Rejoicing,
Welcoming,
Heaven’s Newest Guest!

Your poems are lovely!

And no, it doesn't get any easier, well, maybe a little in the distant future. Both my Mom and Dad died in 1978 (different months), and there are years when I forget to mark the anniversary of their deaths, but there are some years where I do remember and it's bitter sweet. I try to reflect on the happy times and how my life is today and what they would think if they were here.

Your Dad would be very proud of you!
