So tomorrow Ansel & I will be traveling to LSU Veterinary School to see if they can decide what's wrong with his back. He's never traveled longer than 10 minutes in a car to the vet's office, so I don't know how he will react. This is about an hour drive tomorrow, barring no wrecks on I-10. I don't have any feliway spray to spray in the cage and was wondering if spraying catnip (he loves catnip) on the bedding in the cage would help or hinder? Opinions?

OK....thanks. I think what I'll do instead is take the shorts & t-shirt that I slept in last night and put that in the cage. Maybe having my scent in there will put him a little at ease.

I would say catnip would be a bad idea, mostly because it gets them excited and i would think then make more anxiety. I think the clothes idea is good and also some toys that he likes.

Don't worry too much. My former cat HATED the car and had never been in it longer than 10 min. at a time. But when I moved, we made a 7-hour drive without any problems--other than the fact that she complained the entire time. If your cat should make a really pathetic mewling sound (as she did!), just try to ignore it. Interestingly, I was once in an airport and heard that exact same sound coming from someone's pet carrier, so it may be a universal feline sound of displeasure!
