Hi all,

Has anyone ever found that some clumping litters won't work for certain cats? I bought a big bag a while ago and thought it was too cheap as it wouldn't clump for my 2 girls' box. I bought a more expensive type and this still isn't really clumping. I tried both types with the foster cats and they clumped fine....
any thoughts?? I haven't been able to find a type that clumps for these girls, regardless of the cost.

Since clumping is just a reaction of water and semi-solid clay, I can't imagine how it might not work for some cats...unless the cats move around while piddling.

There are some brands who clump harder than others, however.

When you say it isn't clumping, do you mean that the clumps fall apart, that they never form, or that they aren't ball-like (i.e. more spread out)?

Cloud_shade, the clumps just don't form. The urine is just in this crumbly smelly pile in the box
, as if it's non-clumping litter. I've had to dump the whole box several times. I've never seen anything like it--it doesn't seem to matter what litter I use.

mrblanche, I think maybe one of them is an excessive scratcher--that's about the only thing I can think could be causing it. It's very strange!

That would be a possible explanation.

There ARE cats (and I've known one or two) who will get in the litter box just for exploratory excavation.
