Well, seeing as I groom dogs\\cats for a 'living', I might just as well share some pics of what I do...just for fun

Poodle mix..."before" (preshaved, and bathed though)

Poor guy...can't even see his eyes!!!

Same dog...after...

Awww...look at those cute little eyes!!!

Pomeranian...Before (bathed, though...I like working with a clean dog)

Oh wow what a FANTASTIC job you did.
I wish you lived close by me to groom my baby boy.

They are both beautiful dogs, but I could steal that poodle mix

Thank you...wish you lived closer too; I'm always lookin' for new clients
What kind of dog do you have?

I want to get into competitive dog grooming...I think it would be alot of fun, AND I could learn even more from groomers who are more 'seasoned' than myself. I love picking up new tricks...Lol!

ETA...it looks like your pooch is a Bichon?

No thanks...that show, imho was more about the drama between groomers than it was about actual grooming; I don't think that the guy who won was all that impressive...Now go to an actual grooming competition and see how THOSE dogs look when they are done...that's impressive

You'd be amazed how differently some 'sassy' dogs and cats act toward a groomer; "most" groomers have a really good working knowledge about canine and feline behavior so we can usually pick out the animals who are serious about their aggression, and those who just know that they can get away with being bratty.

i was a groomer for many years before a car crash finished that career. i used to go to peoples houses, so had a heavy table, drier, kit etc to carry. not to mentioned the suppleness needed to groom some dogs. just couldn't do it anymore.

i do still like to check out grooming sites though, to see what people are doing now, how the styles have adapted. some not so good sadly. looking at one site recently, this poor standard poodle had been cut to look like a giraffe!

you are a fantastic groomer!
as you will know, us groomers have a highly critical eye when it comes to other peoples work.
your scissoring is spot on. that poodle mix looks exquisite.
and the little pom actually looks a whole lot younger too with his haircut!

makes me wish i could still do it.

I'm sorry you can't groom anymore; I am thinking about getting into competetive grooming, but have no clue where to start, because I am not sure there are any such 'competitions' here in my state...

Thank you for your critical eye, and comments; it's always a good thing to have other groomers critque your work too! It's easy to say you're a good groomer, if you're the only one looking at it...Lol!

Here's a couple more...these are 'after' shots though...forgot to get the 'befores'...

Priscilla, the business owner's dog...she had a 'full coat'...well a short full coat before.

Cat...he was really matted, so he had to have a lion cut...don't worry he wasn't as 'mad' as he appears; he was the sweetest baby to groom!!!

I have NEVER sedated a cat to groom it...most of them, while they may hiss and moan about the grooming, are usually pretty good; in fact they usually take less time to groom than a dog; mainly cause there are only three things you can do to a cat; bath and brush, shave, or give it a lion cut. There's not much you can do with kitty fluff...
Plus, they don't like to stand, and you have to watch teeth and claws; even on the 'nice' cats, I am still very careful in how I handle them...you have to be...they're not dogs, and so I don't treat them like dogs!!

Great pictures! Maybe this can become a grooming thread so people who have an interest in grooming can share tips here.

Personally, I know nothing about grooming, but I do know that the after pictures look aesthetically-pleasing
All the dogs look happier after they've gotten a good grooming, good for you!
