I'm going to give leash-training another try with Murray. The first time around, I acted pretty hastily and didn't give him much of a chance to get used to the harness/leash before trying to walk him. So he resisted. This time, I found some pointers online that stress using lots of patience and going very slowly. Today I put the leash/harness on him for a brief while, gave him some treats and talked to him nice, praising him for being a good boy, and then after removing the harness/leash played with it like a toy with him, dangling it for him to grab at (on the theory that if he comes to "like" the leash/harness, maybe he'll be better about letting me put it on him). As I write this, he's playing with the leash/harness all by himself. So I'm encouraged.

Good luck. The only cat of mine that was leash/harness trained was my first one cause he was indoor/outdoor.

Personally I don't advocate letting them out in the first place

Good luck with Murray. Mine love going out in the garden, as soon as they hear me get out the container with their harnesses they all run to the door meowing

Well, my leash-training experiment has hit a snag. The contraption I had bought was cheap, and it broke last night. So I went out and bought a good-quality harness and leash, but I can't seem to figure out how to get the harness on Murray correctly. I will take it back to PetSmart tonight and see if they can give me some pointers. But if I still can't figure it out, I guess I'll just return it and give up on the idea. :-(
