Question about teeth, please help

I have two 6-month-old kittens. One of them seems to be developing some sort of inflammation on his gum line. I did make an appointment with the vet, but I'm paranoid about it right now.
First photo shows the left side with a small red pimple like thing. Second photo is the right side.

Yes, I would think the "6 months" is the clue, since that is about the time kittens get their adult teeth.

I've never owned any pets before these guys so I'm kinda clueless.
One more thing though; I just noticed that he's not chewing food on the left side (where the inflammation is). Is teething supposed to be that painful?
