These SAD stories are exactly why your cats should be INDOOR only. They adjust to it well whether they have been indoors from birth or have been previously outdoor/ indoor cats. It is just a matter of keeping them inside and giving. Lots of attention and they stop wanting to go out very quickly. I feel very sorry for your loss, it's why my crew is indoor only where its safe and warm.

Sorry to hear about your cat missing.  One night I opened the door and Bella got out and was gone for 1 hour. I opened the door   again and she wanted to come back in. This is why Bella & Thunder are indoor cats. I don't have kids at home anymore and the cats are my babies. I call them '' my girls'' when it's time to go to bed.. They are part of our family and I'll do whatever I can for them. I'm scared that someone will take them or they will get ran over by a car. Out there in the big world I wouldn't know if they were ok and are getting fed. I would be worried sick.

     I hope that you found your cat.  My cat Felix, a 7 year old neutered male went missing.  When, I realized he was missing, I was frantic, and also tortured with guilt because I felt responsible.  He got out the screen door.  I live in a residential neighborhood, but there is a lot of road traffic due to the college nearby.  My husband and I went out in the dark of night and looked for him.  This continued the next day, of course I didn't go to work, because I was an emotional wreck.  What I found to be the most helpful, was simply walking around and talking to neighbors, as well as passing them a flyer with his picture on it.  A picture with your contact information on it would suffice also.  I found that the personal touch of talking to people made a different.  Last evening, a group of college girls, whom I spoke to during the day and passed a flyer to called at midnight, they found him under a car near their house.  I am extremely grateful to them.  Felix returned without a scratch on him.  I believe that he was probably hiding most of the time.

    I don't know if you tried any of these suggestions yet, but my guess is that your cat is alive and in hiding.  If you didn't do so already, talk to neighbors, give them a picture of your cat and all your contact information.  Also, take walks to look for your cat.  We walked right by where our cat was found, but I believe he was probably too scared to respond when we looked for him.  But one thing it will do, is help you leave your scent.  So, if your cat does try to venture home, then she will be able to follow your scent.

    I don't know if this helps or not.  I hope that you find or will find your cat:)

While I agree that cats should be indoor cats if you want them to be safe, cats sometimes have other ideas.  our darling Boo Cat went missing 10/27/14 and we are devastated.  He is an almost 6 year old, neutered, microchipped, large friendly black male.  We got him as a kitten from the local Humane Society.  We fully intended that Boo be an indoor cat.  He, however, understood the function of the door handle and ripped the weather stripping all around the font door trying to get out.  One night, when we came home in the dark, he hid under the belly of our black dog as he came to the door to greet us.  Out he went.  He was thereafter an indoor/outdoor cat.  Now that he is missing I am glad of it as he learned to be a self-sufficient hunter.

My cat baby was mostly an indoor cat but loved going outside an hour or two each day to run around. Whenever I;d call she would come right back. We brought her to get fixed and shortly there after she started her normal routine, outside a couple hours a day. Then a day or two later, I called, she never came back. I have no idea where she went or what happened and thats the worst. I wonder did I let her out too soon? She was the best cat ever, and I want to hope she can still some how come back but its been a year now. I am so heartbroken. I don't get it. I put flyers, called around, and nothing. Then, my flyers went missing, they all had been taken down. I am now thinking some jerk stole or ran her over and ripped the local flyers down to take attention off of it?? : (

I'm so sorry to hear that your cat is missing. You could try putting up fliers that say something like;

Reward for any information leading to the recovery of (cat's name)

You don't need to specify how much the reward is, but having that word in big letters gets attention. One of my cats was gone for 26 days but I managed to find her and she was OK.  I've heard of cats turning up years after they first went missing. They can take care of themselves much better than we think.

Have a look at this thread, there might be something on here that could help you.

Good luck, I hope she comes home.

my cat sox fell out of our screened window two mornings ago. Our neighbour said he saw a Siamese cat walking up the middle of the street shortly after the fall. We are heartbroken. We leave food wet and hard food out every night and treats. Whatever animal is eating it eats like our boy. Could he be eating and going back into hiding? It's just very weird that only his favourite wet food is being eaten and when it's not what he likes he eats the dry food very sox like. Is it possible he comes home and eats and leaves? Tonight we are setting up a humane trap with his favourite items and his blanket and treats in hopes its him. Anyone have any thoughts. I have been in years all weekend I need to find comfort from people who have Ben through this. We live in a wooden area I have spoke to every neighbour some of them feed the strays but I'm still hopeful.

Allicat, if Sox is an indoor only cat he probably is spending all day hiding. A humane trap is a great idea. You could also see if you can borrow or rent a trail camera from someone and film whoever is coming to eat. Don't give up, one of my cats survived on her own in the woods for nearly a month before I found her again.

My cat fell out of the window, screens are flimsy and cant hold the weight if they lean against, you have to only crack your windows open enough to where their head wont fit through and buy a good screen door that shuts tight with a pet screen added on to it. About the lost cats when people move, many go back to their old home, and yes they travel 100s of miles, most are found back at their old homes they use to live , if they survive the travel , if your cat is missing and you moved , they do find their way back, ours went 25 miles and we found her at the old property, she died shortly after of pneumonia, from the rains and winds. but please look at your old place you use to live, they do go back!
