Besides glitch winning, marianjela won by using IMO. Several, best, and close did not win points.

Today's KatKwiz was about Cat Central.

Last week we had some good speculation on why there might be so few Profile Pics; but what about cat pics? Are you aware there is a separate thread just for Cat Central questions? Why do you suppose there are still so many silohuettes in with the pics? Today we found out how many pics there were and it came out to be FAR LESS than one pic per member; this amazed me, how about you? OK, I've to to ask this one, do you have any pictures of your cat(s) in your wallet/purse?

Woo hoo! I squeaked in at the very last moments. I thought I missed out when I couldnt sign on last night. Was happy to see there were still a couple hours left before the Kwery ended. Thanks again Lee!!!

Just like I said earlier in yesterday's KatKwery, there are 25,658 members on TCS, so it does surprise me that there are only 1074 cat pictures, ESPECIALLY considering that most members have more than one cat! That's less than 5 percent of people uploading pictures. And taking into consideration the multiple cat thing.... and also a lot of those "pictures" arent pictures but silhouettes with descriptions of their cats...

In this day and age I definitely would've thought it was higher. Ten years ago I joined a list and remembered trying to figure out how to get a photo uploaded. In the end I ended up snail-mailing it to a friend who scanned it then mailed it back. Unthinkable now-a-days. Between scanners, digital cameras it is curious as to why the number is so low. It would be nice to hear from the horse's mouth, from anyone out there that doesnt have their cat on Cat Central. Whether it be technology, time or they're just not aware of the option. Although, I know when I first joined, I seen that people had signatures, and I noticed the avatars and thumbnails and went searching for a way to get some of my own. So of course, maybe time is a big issue. People dont want to figure out how to do it, or they dont have the time too or the resources... Or, it just doesnt matter to them.

I was not aware of a separate thread just for Cat Central. Learn something new everyday. But once again, I was drawn to look it up and found it in the TCS Support/Announcements forum and in the How-To sub-forum.

As for all the silhouettes, it still eludes me. I think members perhaps intended to upload a picture, started the biography and arrival information of their cat and never got around to it perhaps. Or maybe someone is still looking for the perfect photograph. I remember the day I added my cats pictures I held a photo shoot specifically to put up. Most of the pictures I already had made poor thumbnails, so I took individual pics. Only Squeaker didnt get her own session that night, but I found a picture of her posed on the arm of our couch on my computer and I cropped that, edited the background and stuck that up. Even if the quality of it is bad, and her glowing eyes make her look like an alien!

I've been meaning to taking a better picture, but like somebody else might have said... "I'll get to it later". And so she sits alien-like next to my username.

It does amaze me how few pictures there are posted in relation to the number of fellow members we have. The actual percentage is phenomenal. As a math major I cant even fathom it - I mean primarily considering that many members post more than one picture. I have four up just myself!

I imagine it would take awhile to figure out how many of those eleven-hundred pictures are posted by just one member. If one member (who shares their cat's photo) averages 2 pics a pices, then you figure less than 550 members are putting up their cat's pic. Now that 5% number I quoted earlier is cut in half!

I mean really? Only 2% of us are sharing????? Which is incredible considering the number, albeit a small portion, is still over a thousand pictures!

And no, I dont have pictures of my cats in my wallet. I dont even have pictures of my kids in my wallet Well, I kind of have pictures of them in my purse... my kids I mean, but they havent been updated in a long time. I think they are just of my oldest two daughters. But in this electronic age, I have them posted on my personal web page, and I have a slide show of them on my computer for my screen saver. At work I had them wallpapered all over my office. And yes, I had pictures of my dog and one picture of my RB cat hung up in my bulletin board.

Have you ever seen those electronic wallets/photo holders or the electronic keychains? I need to get myself one of those - that and stock in a battery company

Wow, I'm starting to slip in Katkwery. Hmm, maybe a lot of people just don't feel like taking the time to put their cats picture on their cat page. Or maybe they don't have a good pic for it. A lot of new members may have not taken the time to do it yet. Could be a lot of reasons. Maybe we should start a poll on it. I didn't know there was a specific thread for Cat Central Questions. I like doing the cat page thing, it's fun. Popsie has a good number of friends. I always get excited when I get a PM saying I have a Cat Friend request. I don't have a picture of Popsie in my purse, but now that you've given me the idea I might just start carrying one. OK, done rambling now. I've talked about things that you haven't even asked. So maybe I have said the SW. I sure hope so. blah blah yackity yak.

Oh how exciting, the race for first! Go guys go!

I think there are probably so few cat pics for a few different reasons. Some people, like me before the KatKwery telling me about it, probably just don't realize there is an option. Of those that have pages for their cats but just silouhettes (not even gonna try to spell that correctly!), my only guess would either "for no particular reason", or they just didn't care to put one up. I mean, when I did mine, it did take a while to figure out how to do it. Have to get the pic on your comp somehow, find a place to upload it to, then get it the right size. And this website doesn't automatically shrink it, so for the computer illiterate like me, it is a lot of trial and error to find something that will work, and to be honest was quite a pain and I can see people just giving up.

Hmm... If "Cat Central" is the same thing as the "Your Cat Pages", then yes. I did a poll a while ago asking what I should do with my old fosters' pages, and was linked to it. I even made the last post! But I was suggesting, adding to the "wish list", I guess, that they make a foster option like the memorial option, but nothing has been done...

It doesn't really surprise me that there are way less cat pictures than members. For one, I'm sure the number of active members is a lot lower than actual members. Two, a lot only come on for cat-stuff, not social stuff, and the Cat Pages are much more social than educational. Three, lots of people probably don't know about them. Four, if people do want a special thing for their cats, they probably have a different place dedicated to that, since here is more of a talking forum than picture forum. And five, when they do want to share pictures, they probably decide to share them on Fur Pics, where people will notice and comment! The Cat Pages are kind of boring once you put them up- no comments or anything. I'm not even sure any one has ever looked at mine! I mean, they are fun to look at other peoples', but once you put yours up, that's about it.

Nope, I have no pictures of my cat or anyone or anything in my wallet- I don't have a wallet!! I have a plastic container that holds my cards and such, but if I put a pic in there it would be distroyed, so I don't. It's totally awesome and water proof and I got it for search and rescue- I'm never going back to a wallet!! But, I have over 1,000 pictures, most of them of Evie and the other pets, on my cell phone, which is also always with me. Does that count?

I didn't know there was a seperate thread for cat central questions! Ill have to go look and find it! Unless its the cat pages questions stuff! Im out of the loop right now, my membership expired and Im really lost without it!! Things dont work quite the same right now... I have a cat pic up for each of my cats right along with their own pages, and their own friends! Even my Rainbow Bridge baby still has his own page up! Im suprised that there isn't even one picture per member up, since I have 4 and most of the people I talk to on here have more than that! Of course I have pictures of my cats in my purse! I even have pictures of my cats on my phone! Most of my pictures are on my photobucket as well! I have cat pictures everywhere, they're just like children! You show them off to anyone who will let you! I go as far as to have their photo's displayed in my car!

Even though there are over 25,500 members, the active members for just this half month of August are over 700.... but still... you have to realize that not all the pictures were added in this month alone. I'm sure the members that are active now, arent the same members that were active last month or even a year ago. I guess the numbers of photos that are posted were done so collectively over time.

Even if nobody visits Cat Central, the photos that are posted on the pages still appear as thumbnails next to everyone's usernames, so that is a bonus. By the active members, at the very least.

I have to admit though, when I first added my cats' pictures to the cat pages, I didnt know they would be included as thumbnails to every post.

Perhaps if more people learned how to get those little pictures beside their name to show up, they would include their pets.

So I suppose there are several reasons people dont have them up - lack of knowledge about it existing, lack of time, lack of knowing how to do it and lack of ability or resources (i.e. no digital camera or scanner).
