Another grand slam. Hey, I'm going broke here. But, maybe nobody won the KatKwiz today, it will not affect this KatKwery so I am going to go ahead and get this going.

Catkiki used all. Cocoa Cream used same. Marianjela used time. Tara & Rob used never, and glitch used hungry.

Today's KatKwiz was about polls.

Do you exactly know how to run a poll and where the information is on running polls? Obviously my next question is have YOU ever run a poll here on TCS? Do you enjoy taking part in polls? Do you think polls are an accurate reflection of the real composite and makeup of TCS members? Is there a subject you would like to run a poll on but are afraid to?

Yes I do know how to run a poll and were the information is located. I've run a couple of polls here before. I like to participate in polls. Sometimes I just vote and don't reply. I do like to see other members replies though. I can't think of a subject I would be afraid to run a poll on.

Wow...another KatKwiz stumper today, huh? I have been working outside and running errands most of the day, so I didn't even try to figure out how many polls have been posted in the last three years. But I look forward to seeing the answer anyway!

I actually have never tried to figure out how to create a poll on the forums before. I don't know how right now, and I do not know where to look, although I guess the TCS Support forum announcements and stickies would be the place to start. I don't have any idea why I would run a poll or what kind of information I would want to gather if I made one. I guess that's why I've never done it. I know some people do it just for fun to get to know more people on the site, and others make them to help them decide on something.

I sometimes participate in polls, but not alot. I only vote if the poll is about an issue I care about or pertains to me in a direct way. I don't usually vote just to view the poll results, either, but I know some people do!
If alot of people are like me and only vote in certain polls, rather than all of them, I'd hesitate to say that they are a good composite of the make up of TCS. But if most people do make their opinoins known in polls, then, yes, I'd say they would be a fairly true analysis of the average TCS member. Last of all, no, I'm not afraid to create a poll. I just lack a good motivation to do so!

I've created a poll before on the forums before, but I've had previous experience creating polls on different boards. I enjoy putting my input in on a poll, I think it shows a quick overview of how people feel about something. I'm not sure if it really is an accurate reflection though, seeing as not everyone participates in polls. I can't say there is any subject I am uncomfortable making a poll about.

Darnit the last time you asked me questions about polls I started one, it didn't go well!! I know how to post one, since I did it the last time! Yes Ive started a poll before, it was dumb and stupid and I wont do it again but I do enjoy participating in other peoples polls! We all know polls are as accurate as we would hope they to be but thats okay because they are fun and thats what matters! Some polls I dont even waste my breath on and others I love to play with! Uhh... Im afraid to run polls in general... mainly because i have one loud ass mouth and dont know how to be quiet therefore what I say can be somewhat hurtfull and I dont want to do that again! I need to think before I speak! And not being able to change it later on isn't a good idea for me! I like the edit button it is good... Whether its truth or not its fun and people will always participate and hope that they are as accurate as possibly could be!
thanks for the points by the way, i havn't been online much so I didn't get to thank you for the last bunch either so thanks a bunch!

i ran a poll when i got Java to choose her name. at the time, i searched for how to set it up - i'd have to search again if i chose to post another poll. i think the polls are relatively accurate, at least percentage-wise - obviously, not every member votes, tho. i don't have any intentions of running one anytime soon, but i wouldn't be afraid to if i wanted to run one. but then, i'm not afraid of what other people think of me, either!

Well, I was blocked from the site again last night, but I see I made to the kwery today with a couple hours to spare. Let's see if I'm too late...

But before I forget, thanks again for the win Lee. Still stuck in third place, but I'll take it!

I have never run a poll on TheCatSite, but I have run polls on other websites, in particular - Yahoo Groups. I'm not sure I know how to run one, initiate one, but I think I could find the information to create one if I wanted to. So like I said, I have never operated a questionnaire of sorts. Although I did just count ballots of the paper kind last night.
I do like participating in some of the polls in the forums. And from the looks of the replies and views others like to partake in the polls as well. The most recent poll I engaged in was regarding the TVs in the bedroom. When the poll first opened it was interesting to see the split, but as time went on "yays" really walked away with it. What I like about these polls better than the others I've took part in is that you can explain your reason. It is interesting to see the diversity among us.

It's hard to predict that the survey is an correct assessment of the members considering how many people actually play in comparison to the amount of members on TCS. There are 25,658 members, but only a fraction of those people are actually active, less than 780 of that total have visited this month alone. And that doesnt include actually replying. So regarding the TV poll... the results show only 87 people voiced an opinion. 87 of 780 active viewer this month. Thats a little more than 10 percent of this month's population.

Hardly an accurate account at all. Like I said, when the poll first opened it was neck in neck. But the more the demographic replied, the greater the spread and more obvious the difference. But still it only represents a fraction of the TCS clan, not to mention the outside race as a whole.

I have thought about running a poll for fun before, but now that I try to remember what it was, I cant recall the subject. In general it is just a fun way to solicit everyone's opinion. But opinions, everybody's ideas and judgments, vary so much that with the diversity of our group that it is to be taken with a grain of salt. Just as the IMO forum. The closest I came to a poll was asking for advice on naming a kitten. When I started the question, I really thought one idea would walk away with the ballot, but was surprised by the feelings and advice of so many different people. There were even outside nominations to through into the mix. But in the end, did it really persuade my initial influence? Who's to say. But it is fun to solicit advice and to include everyone in the process and to have the interaction of your friends, peers and people you admire and look up to.

And of course you know I had to go see how to create a poll in the TCS Support/Announcements > How-To and FAQs Forum. Now maybe next time I submit a thread I will pay better attention to all the options and might consider making my own next time I think of a topic. Scroll to the bottom of the new post and the information is there.

Now to try it out
