Ok, my parents mentioned that regular ole Cheerios cereal is a good alternative to pet treats. Everything I seem to know about cats seems to contradict this statement. What are your thoughts on the idea?

I'd say that your knowledge of feline nutrition far outstrips that of your parents!

If the cats will eat them, why worry - its made of oats and oats are good for you. Now if its the ones with extra sugar - I'd avoid them.

That's too funny...yet....my Max who wouldn't touch human food with a 10-foot pole...ran right over one time and picked up a Cheerio off the floor and ate it...just like that.....could hardly believe it!!!! He must have been having a 'senior' moment....

I don't think I'd be feeding cereal to cats...think....GRAIN/ SUGAR/ CARBS.....! To your parents defense...alot has changed in the feeding of pets since they were kids. Now is the time to re-educate them.

Cherrios - I'd think just a few wouldn't hurt. One of mine wants bread (only the soy pitas, though), enother loves Triscuits, another oyster crackers, another, Wheat Thins. I give them a tiny bit, they love it, and I consider it their "junk food." Vet said it was okay as long it was tiny quantities.

Hmm, never tried those as treats...long as they're not coated in sugar a few would be fine. But cat treats (and food) should be mostly meat I think. I wonder why your parents thought that?

My Maggie LOVES cherrios. I give her one or two once in a while, but I think of it as no differnt than any other human food treat I would feed them. It's a rare thing so what can one or two hurt. I would not feed them regularly as they do not have the right vitamin mix necessary for cats.
