Ok, I had cats growing up but of course mom always took care of them. Now I have two of my own which are about a year and a half old. One of them has thrown up twice in the past 24 hours, once on my bed this morning at 5am (UGH!) and it was yellow bile and then this morning at 10am which was food (he had just eaten about 15 minutes before that). So I called the vet and took him in right away. The vet felt him around (especially his belly) and said Santo doesn't seem to be in any discomfort and his temperature was normal. He tends to think that there is a hairball and gave me some hairball remedy. Of course the boys ARE shedding a lot and it is the season for hairballs. I haven't witnessed Santo throwing one up in a long time, so I'm hoping that is the cause. He ate after we came back from the vet and kept it down and seems to be doing just fine (running after Ernie and all). Does the explanation for the throwing up seem reasonable? The vet said worst case scenario there is a blockage somewhere, but didn't seem to think so because his belly wasn't tender and he said "I can tell by looking at him he doesn't appear nauseated and seems to be eating just fine." Thoughts?

It sounds like hairballs and a normal part of cat ownership. Sometimes I will find bile, food, and something that looks like some hair. As long as they are eating and pooping ok, you usually don't need to worry.

One thing I try to do when the weather warms up is to give them all really a good brushing every day to minimize the amount of hair they ingest.

there are "aids" to help reduce hairballs if the brushing does not do it
