10 in the binary numbering system is equal to two. So technically, when I posted yesterday as August 10, I was correct.
Anyway, hope that did not trip up anybody. It did not trip our two leaders; luvmycat1 won with the word learn and glitch with there. Laureen 227 also used the word rare(ly). Not used were like(ly) and remember.

Very few members have profile pictures; any idea as to why? Many members seem confused between avatars and profile pics, have you had this confusion before? Do you like to see our member's profiles and the information provided there? Do you think not posting their pic is the same reason as why so many do not post their location? Are you able to say with absolute certainy which of the women in my profile pic is DW?

I'm sure a lot of members confuse the avatar with the profile pic, that's why they don't have a profile pic. I myself, just figured it out recently that I can have a profile picture.
I really don't look at profiles much, maybe a couple times. I'm sure some people don't post the location for privacy reasons. Like myself.
I have no idea who your wife is in the picture lol

I don't know why a lot of members wouldn't have a profile picture. I have never gotten avatars and profile pics mixed up. It's nice to see what is in a persons profile. I'm sure not wanting to post there pic might have something to do with privacy. It's really hard to say for sure which one is your wife. They both look lovely though.

I don't know why many people don't have profile pictures. Maybe because they never knew they were available to have? I knew they were available to have, but I've just been too lazy to upload a picture. I haven't had the confusion between avatars and profile pictures before. I know what an avatar is and I also know what a profile picture is. I click on people's profile once in a while. I don't do it very often. I like to read people's profiles but I do it occasionally like when I'm bored and just hanging around on TCS. I think that some people don't post their picture is also the reason why people don't post their locations. There are lot of weird people out in that world, and some people don't want others to know their exact location or what they look like. I post the state of which I'm from, and I've mentioned before what city I'm near, but I don't think I've ever posted what exact town I live in. I'll post which city I'm near, mostly because it's a large city, but I won't post the town.

Okay, Ill just be good and honest, I dont want people to see what I look like. After I get to know you a little bit then you will get to see pictures of me, but seeing someones picture before you know them can make it easy to judge them just based on appearence. I have never thought that profile pics and avatars were the same, I always think of avatars as something more.... un real. I have avatars on other places and they are cartoons so thats what I always think they are! I love to see members profiles and read about them! Makes you feel like you know them a little bit personally instead of all internet based. The location thing always confuses me, I really dont understand why people dont put up where they live... after seeing so many people not post where they live I actually changed mine so that it didn't show where I live! I dont know why... Im very proud of where I live so I guess I shouldn't be embarressed to tell people! I can't even tell you in absolute certainy that its you in the picture and not some random picture you like! truthfully you could add any pictures and most people wouldn't know they're not you! Thats the joy of internet! I guess pictures and locations maybe hidden for privacy reasons... I just dont think that anyone would come hunt me down or anything! But yeah, I dont have my picture on there because I dont want to be critisized on it... Maybe Im just weird! Some people probably dont have pictures up because they dont know how to upload them to their profiles!! I bet that has something to do with it!

I don't post my pic much online for the same reason Glitch has. So many people judge by appearance. I don't think the people on TCS would, but you never know. I know what an avatar is and a profile pic is, so it has never confused me. As for who your wife is in the pic, I haven't any idea, but if I had to choose, I would say the one on your right for the simple matter that you have your arm around her shoulders. I would say she looks Persian, but looks can be deceiving.

I used to go to a forum where people were very mean and judgemental. There were some nice people there, but many were shallow, vain, mean...I'm not sure why I stayed there for so long, I guess I was just bored.

Anyway, I met someone there that I believe is some kind of sociopath. I didn't know this at first. But soon, I learned that if you didn't say something he liked, he and a few of his "internet buddies" would look up all of your info--your full name, phone number, pictures on facebook or myspace--basically any public info, and sometimes they would hack into sites that had private pictures and info (like your photobucket account). Once he got your pictures, he would manipulate them with photoshop, paste your head on different bodies, change your face, etc. Then he would make up stories about you, harrass you, threaten you, try to publicly humiliate you online, etc. He has done this to about 5 other people.

For some reason, he decided to pick on ME. I deleted all my pictures off the internet so that he couldn't get them...but he began making up stories about me, posting fake pictures of (unattractive and photoshopped) people saying they were me, calling me names that I could never even use on this site, harassing me, etc. This has been going on for a few weeks now, and he is still doing this, even though I don't go to that forum anymore. I felt really bad about it before and got really emotionally stressed. I talked to my parents about it, and we decided it wasn't worth taking any legal action at this point since he doesn't really know me, has no real pictures of me, and hasn't tried to bother me in real life. Also, there aren't too many laws against this yet (they are just starting to address these issues after that 13-yr-old girl committed suicide over internet-bullying), so I'm not even sure what could be done. I feel a lot better now, I'm in couseling (for other issues, but it helps with this too), and stopped going to that forum.

Sorry to go into all that, but that is why I am very careful not to post too much personal information or pictures of myself anywhere on the internet. You never know what kind of people are out there. This site is amazing, and everyone is very nice here.
But you can never be too careful when it's the internet.

Here is my shot at it; when DW walks home for lunch she will give me the five secret words.

I would say that a lot of members just do not know the rules and so forth concerning profile pics. And yes, there does seem to be confusion as to which is which and what the rules are for each, which of course is why KatKwiz has been concentrating in this area of late. It feels so much more personal to me to know a little about the person I am responding to especially where a person is from. I DO think that people have become so afraid of the internet that that is indeed the answer as to why people do not post their picture, a very sad commentary but a true one. As far as the last question goes, I think I will remain silent.

probably because most people don't like their pix! i haven't had the confusion between avatars & profile pix, myself, but that's just me... i enjoy seeing pix of people [when i have that option] even tho i usually am more familiar w/their cats [both in appearance & name]. i think it's highly possible that people don't post their pix for the same reason that they don't post their location - but some may just not be aware of the options for either one. i would say that the woman on the right [your left] w/the dark hair is your DW - but that's strictly based on hair color [which we all know can be altered]. the pic is too small for me to really see faces, so that's the best i can do!

Not sure why people don't have profile pics. I'd say they're either like me, and just don't know how to do it or that it exists (once again, I didn't until reading this!
), or, like a few others here, they don't want billions of strangers not only knowing what they look like, but having access to a photo of them and doing as they will with it.

Yeah, I've been confused between the two before. When I first read about the profile pic (probably in your KatKwiz), I did think it meant avatar. Of course, since I only just realized that there is a difference, I could have read "profile pic" before and just assumed it was the avatar I wouldn't know that I was confused!


Since I'm at work now and really not feeling well, I am not going to go check this magical "profile pic" we are talking about, so I can't really say whether I do or do not like to see them!


Yeah, as mentioned above, privacy is a big thing on the internet now a days, so many people that don't have profile pics chose not to because of privacy issues, same reason they may not have their location posted.

Not able to say at all! Since I'm not going to take the time at the moment to look at a profile picture, I haven't even seen your profile picture, let alone guess which is your DW!
