so, the pols are squabbling and the state workers have to pay the consequences so much for the theory of work hard - get paid
At least State Controller Chiang says he will issue paychecks as normal
I can't fathom the Supreme Court saying it's legal to cut paychecks without warning because the legislature didn't provide a budget....

Don't think its fair considering Calif is a high price area to start. But Calif is also a lot in debt (like other states). If I was a state worker, I'd rather have a pay cut then the job cut! Have to think of it that way too.

But a pay cut down to $6.55 an hour all because the politicians are squabbling over the budget? Good luck trying to provide for a family on that, much less support yourself until the pols straighten the mess out. I would only hope that Ah-nold and the legislature in California are also having their pay cut down to the federal minimum wage, too. Of course, we all know that would never happen.

My poor friend will not be able to pay her bills now. I think it is very unfair to teh people here. Everything costs more tehn in other states.

I realize that - didn't say it would be easy. But some money is better then no money....right?

I SO think the pay cut should be on Arnold and the Legislature.

However, as I understand it, and I may be wrong, it's partly for show. A ruse to pressure the Legislature. The employees will be paid their usual salaries, retroactively, once the budget is passed.

Maybe the next step will be for the state of California to hire illegal aliens to fill all those newly-minimum-wage jobs.

I can't imagine trying to get by in CA on a wage that's less than mine. It would be more impossible than it is here.

It would be fair, I think, to put all our senators and the people actually responsible for the budget on a minimum wage. Heck, they don't even work nearly full time, nor do they have any repercussions for not showing up.

But not just the state employees who had no control over that.

That would probably work wonders
It's so difficult to imagine those poor state workers, who don't make that much anyway, except for CHP and CDC - who, being in law enforcement and corrections are exempt from any pay/job cuts in this issue- having to put up with the public (esp. those poor ladies at the DMV registration counter) AND doing it for less than they'd make serving fast food

As individuals, I certainly don't wish this on anyone. However, if they really are in such a deficit, perhaps they do need to eliminate some of the state employees. Honestly, I think this pay cut is purely for show and highly inconsiderate.

Start with the politicians.

No kidding. Arnold is wealthy as I am sure many of the others are. Why don't they work for minimum wage for a year.
