My cat is so spoiled.
I told myself that I was going to correct any undesireable behavior I would encounter with her, but whenever Adagio does something 'bad,' I end up talking in my widdle biddy baby voice and saying things like
"You're a bad widdle baby, yes you are!!"

or

"Who's a naughty kitty?! YOU'RE my bad widdle kiddy!"

It's a little shameful, but I can't help but laugh when I hear myself say these things.

Anyone have the same problem?

My cats correct my bad behavior with discipline all the time
I've lost count of the number of times I've been tapped on the head for not waking up and making breakfast...

I have a hard time yelling actual words at my cat. It might sound strange, but I never really know what to say. I just...don't want to be mean. She barely ever does anything wrong.

If I see kitty doing something she shouldn't be doing, I make a loud Tsss! kind of sound, and she stops immediately. She never looks startled, but it always gets the point accross. When she stops doing what I don't want her doing, I proceed with the baby talk.

I have found that a squirt gun works. Just one of those little crap 99 cent ones. It is not cruel, it is immediate, and that way, you don't get caught up in the baby talk because they ARE so damn cute. We ALL do it, you are definitely not alone here...but seriously...try the squirt gun, it works.

I did buy a squirt gun the day before yesterday, and luckily, I haven't had to use it yet.

With my luck, she'll like it and want to get squirted all the time

<chuckles heartily>

Rascal will paw at the window blinds, they are the horizontal ones. He will stick his paw in between them pulling down, turn and look at me, while waiting patiently for me to come and open them for him so he can look outside.

As far as discipline goes, I simply re-direct their attention else where while "explaining" to them why they shouldn't be doing whatever it is they were doing at the time. I found this to work *much* better than yelling, or a water spray gun.

As a general rule yelling at them only scares and confuses them. Talking/explaining things to them works. Of course you have to be consistent and do it all the time, but you would be surprised at how much they *really* understand if you just take the time to talk to them.

Cats are extremely intelligent creatures.
