2 month old baby mauled by 6 week old puppy? - Page 2

As much as I hate to say this.... the story in the paper today didn't say the puppy bit or mauled the baby. It said he ate the baby.

Little gross, perhaps, but a ten pound puppy cannot eat a ten pound baby in an hour and a half.

WHAT ON EARTH?! This is the reason why breeds like pits and rotties are given a bad name. Sensationalization of tragic incidents like this one which are brought on by stupid humans, plus some OTHER stupid humans who train their dogs to maul and kill. If things continue like this, even Labradors and Lab mixes will be on the banned list. Its ridiculous.

I'm sorry I posted that last little bit. I realize that was TMI. I was shocked myself when I read it in the paper.

Well, I don't think you're at fault for posting that at all. The papers reported it as such and you were just letting us know what the paper's position is. Given how journalists LOVE blowing things out of proportion, frankly, I'm not surprised... Just angry at their irresponsibility. I hope that people who don't know dogs will not be too influenced by this unfortunate choice of words.

When I first saw this the other day my first thoughts were "no way did a puppy maul(eat) a newborn"!! There is just no way IMO. I have said all along the parents/grandma have something to do with it!!

No, actually the paper didn't get it wrong. Here is the latest, if you want to read it. But don't if you just ate.

Etch... A dog will eat a person, but usually only if the person is already dead and the dog is starving. That's my guess. Neglect on both accounts, the likely starving puppy and the two month old that SOMETHING happened to. (Maybe an overdose from Momma? Fall out of the swing?)

Well...maybe the baby was crying, and the puppy was left all alone with nothing to play with. Puppy all alone=destruction of anything it can get its mouth on. In this case, maybe the baby sounded similar to a toy(I imagine it could sound like a high-pitched squeak toy) and he thought he could play with it. It is completely the mom and grandma's fault. Who leaves a baby of ANY age alone for that length of time?! If the puppy didn't get to the baby, something else would have happened to the baby down the road. As I said before, they should both be thrown in jail for causing 2 deaths.

Yep. The baby should have been in a crib, not left in a swing.

There is no reason she could not have picked up her baby and taken her baby back to bed with her. I just don't get leaving a baby alone like that. Dog or no dog.
