Hey all.....

I am looking to get some ceramic floor tile (5 boxes) shipped from New Jersey to Louisiana. I can not find this tile locally. The guy is guessing it might cost me around 200 or 300 to have it shipped. I'm going to do some asking around today with Fed Ex, UPS, & even Greyhound. In the meantime, does anyone know of any alternative (preferably inexpensive) shipping methods? Any truckers out there travel from New Jersey to Louisiana?!

All I know is USPS ships by weight and UPS ships by box size. How much are you in a hurry for these tiles?? That is such a small amount of goods I cannot imagine a trucking firm would haul them for you.

With gas prices the way they are, people are carpooling cross-country trips, finding each other on Craig's List and such... maybe you could find someone who's driving that way and would carry the boxes for you as a "passenger?"

That's a great idea. You could pitch in on their gas, and it may be less expensive.

Also, look to see if the company does a large amount of business in your state. Try to see if they'll ship them to a work site, and you can pick them up. That may cut down on the price of shipping.

I didn't mean hiring a trucking company just for this...I meant if someone on TCS maybe was already going from New Jersey to here, they could just put those 5 small boxes in their truck.
I am having all the plumbing lines in my house redone. I can't get started on that until I have the tile in hand and installed.

Well, I called another one of the New Jersey stores this morning. There are 7 of them scattered across the state. The lady at this store was much more helpful than the man I spoke to yesterday at a different location. She got a bit of info from me and then called me back with a quote. It's not nearly as bad as I thought. It will cost $113 dollars to ship the 5 boxes of tile via UPS. I ordered one sample sheet to make sure this is what I want. I've only ever seen a picture of it....but I like what I saw.
