On the recommendation of people on this site I feed my new cat Instinct canned original.  She was getting 5.5 (one can) per day & begging for more constantly.  I am going to up this a little.  Can't leave out dry for grazing like I did with my last cat because she eats it all at once.

Give a few purebite freeze dried chicken treats before bed!

I feed my cat ... A lot. I adopted him 6 weeks ago and I'm still trying to figure things out, but he eats around 400 calories a day, give or take. I don't really regulate but I usually tally at the end of day what and how much he eats. I vary his diet as well and am constantly letting him try different wet and raw foods.

For example, today he ate 5 nuggets of freeze dried primal turkey, a 6 oz can of cats in the kitchen (chicken) and a 3 oz can of fancy feast (chicken and liver flavour). I fed him 6 times today - all small-ish meals. (When I have work, I can't feed him so often.)

He was 14 lbs when I got him and I weighed him about a week ago and he's kept the weight.

I worry I give him too much but he seems to know when he's full and will stop eating and come back to it later or just leave his leftovers to rot (for me to clean).

But anyway, many people here on the forum have advised that all cats are different so I would keep on doing what you're doing, observe kitty's weight and adjust accordingly.

Your post makes me wonder if young Snowshoe mixes are calorie-burning machines! Our two-year-old Snowshoe, Edwina, is a piglet, too, but about half Ming's size so our two cats split roughly the amount of food Ming eats every day. (They even get some similar foods: Primal freeze-dried and Cats in the Kitchen.) I don't really calculate or monitor their calories, either, particularly since they eat a variety of foods, with varying calories: both cats have good, healthy weights and they're very active. I'm wondering what will happen, though, when their activity level slows down!

Lilith and Sophie are about 5 pounds each and they split 2 3 ounce cans a day. Henry is about 10 pounds and he eats one 5.5 ounce can at breakfast and one 3 ounce can at dinner although he doesn't always finish his breakfast. I crush and sprinkle a couple nuggets of Stella and Chewy's tummy ticklin turkey over the girls food and occasionally over Henry's but he doesn't seem to like it as much as they do. Lilith likes it the best out of all 3. I also will use a tablespoon of Rad Cat as a topper as well to get them acclimated to raw as I want to transition them. They all like the Rad Cat best out of all the commercial raw foods. They will eat Primal but I have to mash it up. All 3 like Pure Bites chicken as a topper.

Phew! Again, it just makes me feel better to hear I'm not alone in trying to satisfy our hungry snowshoe cat-machines!

Hugo is about  1.5 years old and about 12 pounds. I would say he eats quite a bit - 6 oz of wet and 1 primal nugget spilt into two meals and mixed together. He also gets 60 g of Orijen dry which he doesn't finish. The dry is just to keep him alright while when I am at work.

It's a bit difficult to compare because the feeding recommendations vary according to the brand/contents and the size, age and activity level of the cat. Mogli eats one 7-ounce can of food a day, split between two main meals, plus a few pieces of dry food twice a day as a snack, for a total of about 10 large kibbles. He's 6 kilograms = 13 lbs., will be 3 in June, and is pretty active.

My cat tiger get six primal frozen nuggets broken into 4 to 5 meals a day he would complain he is hungry. He has IBS so he get raw my other cat eat fancy feast one 5.5 oz can over 4 to 5 small meals a day spread out. I cant leave dry out Zoey would eat it and tiger cant so no dry for my fur babies. Tiger weights between 14-17 lb and he is 8 years old long and lean. Zoey way 11-13lb. Cant leave raw out and tiger cant have anything but raw he will try for zoeys food and she will try for his food. Zoey needed to lose some weight and we are getting there. Tiger gets 2/ 1/2 nuggets before I leave in the morning and 2/ 1/2 when I get home and the last nugget before bed. Zoey 5.5 split over the day

I upped it from 5.5 can to a can & 1/3 plus got a puzzle & put dry in it.  She is gaining rapidly so we will go back to 5.5 oz.  I don't leave dry out & this seems like so little food!  She begs constantly & wants my food; no matter what it is.  The vet told me to stick with wet because dry is higher in calories & some types cause illnesses later in life.  This happened to my beloved Rizzo so I can being very careful with this one.

Oh, that's too bad she started gaining so fast! Do you already mix a little water into the food? Maybe getting a little more water into her will help her feel more satiated? Good luck!

A lot of Cat Site members (including me!) do this... I'm not sure how much it really helps with the hunger, but at the very least it helps get a little more water into the cats!

What is the difference between wet food and canned food.  I've always called canned food wet food and dry food, dry food.  I'm call confused again.  My cat is 18 lbs and I'm stopping all dry food and just going with canned but I don't know how much is too much.  I will be changing out her wet food from Fancy Feast as it can cause pancreatitis and too much grain meal. What ever good food they have at my local supermarket is what she will get.  She has been throwing up for over a week and I suspect she has formed some sort of allergy to what she's ingesting now.  Should she get 3oz in the morning and 3oz at night?

Canned food is wet food. Some people call it wet, some call it canned, it makes no real difference.

3 oz twice a day is a good starting point for most cats, but some need more, some less. You just have to see how your cat responds and adjust the amount if needed.

Poptart is small, she is about 6 or 7lbs. She gets one 5.5 oz can a day, the last vet visit the vet told me she was a good weight so I haven't added more. Though, I do leave dry food out. However, I'm taking it away as she doesn't even eat it anymore and it just sits.

I give Annabel 2 cans 5 oz each when she's eating properly with no stomach upset. The two overlap because our day is reversed. Probably would too if it didn't. As a Siamese she needs lots of meat. Her system is very sensitive.I I think 3 oz cans for most days is too little and I always give her both wet and dry on her plate.

Does your cat really eat 10 oz a day or is that a typo? That is a lot, my big 17 lb male eats less!

I don't know how much she weighs but I'm guessing 15 or so. It's not all eaten at once. She noshes over the day. Sometimes more sometimes less (of the can)but she also won't eat old food. If it's been sitting there for a while she won't eat what's left in the can. We humans don't like to throw away food but she very seriously will not eat left-over food that's been left for too long. And I'm not even talking about more than a 24 hr. period
