I had guppies for years. I eventually got rid of them because they got so inbred it was nasty. People would actually come over and be disgusted by my poor fish. My mom kept telling me to let the fish eat the babies and not save them but I felt so sad. Lets just say after about 3 years every single one of my fish had either “S” or “C” shaped spines. Some only had one eye. Some had weird tails. It was pretty sad.

So while I love Guppies I obviously don’t know how to take care of them. Cant wait to see pics of yours though!

PS don’t hate me for my deformed fish! I tried! I even hired a professional once a month to “do his thing that fish people do” he was grossed out too…

My dad and I raised the fancy guppies when I was a young teen. I remember we had about 7-8 tanks ranging from 10-20 gallon. Every Saturday we changed the filters and some of the water.

We would take our extra guppies to the local petshop and sell them to the shop for resale - proud to say ours were a lot better looking then most you see in the shops

Maybe one day I'll do it again. I love looking at what is there and thinking "ok if I got this female and this male....what color tails would I wind up with?"

Most of the ones we had were the black/red ones and a few yellow "leopard" types. I've seen pictures of some outstanding blues that I would love to raise.
