Hi All

Need a bit of advice please,

Been breading BSH for three years now and never had any problems with the birth.
My cats seem to come to me when they giving birth and one cat all her kittens come feet first so my husband gives her a little help which she fine with.
My other cat is having her first litter,, well she had her first kitten at 10.30 this morning and then had another at 11.35 which is about right 1 hour inbetween,,
But she hasnt had another kitten since,
but when she lies down you can see the kittens or kitten inside moving and kicking,
she is not interested in food only water which is normaly a sign she is still in labour,
what the time span between kittens?
how can i tell if she has finished in labour and that it isnt a kitten inside.
wanted to make sure before i taek her to the vet if there is any problems..

regards
justine

I would take her to the vet anyway. If something seems off it very well may be. There was a poster here who lost kittens because the cat was not taken to the vet in time. Better safe than sorry.

How long did you keep her with the stud? More than a day? If so, the kitten can be delayed in birthing. I've had cats give birth 24 hours after the first one...but I would suggest a vet visit from 12 hours after the last kitten.

We had a problem with Coco. We were told she was having 3 after she had a ultrasound. She had 3 fine then the labor stopped and everything. She had 3 kittens by 6am then nothing. At 9 that night my sister said to Coco what you doing. She pushed and the dead one came then a minute later another dead. One had a deformed leg and both were male Calico. You can wait a little longer but watch her. My Coco was fine and a great Mom. I hope the kittens come soon.

Hi thanks for all the replies

Well i ended up taking her to the 24hour vets cost an arm and a leg but it was my cat ( kittens ) lifes i was concernd.
So he did a quick check and my thoughts were correct there was stilla kitten in there having trouble coming out.
He gave her a quick jab to induce the labour and within 10mins out popped a huge Blue girl,
very very strong,
he then gave her another jab and sent us on our way,,
Happy as peas in a pod,,

On monday morning i noticed the blue boy that was first born wasn't suckilng
and didn't seem to want to latch on,
But the evening he had passed away,
we was heart broken its the first kitten we have lost,,
my husband was worse then me as he helped the kitten out and to get breathing as he came out feet first,
We have been breading BSH for three years and its hard enough to let the kittens go to there new homes, you don't half get attached to them.
But this was very very hard,,,
But the other two are very strong and putting weight in about 20g a day lol little fatys they going to be big cats,,
thanks again

Gorgeous cats. Really pretty. My Saffron is blue and so cool looking too.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a little one is not easy. RIP little blue boy.

Yes, it's best to wait it out as long as your cat is not in distress. Most cats deliver the rest when their bodies are ready. Hang in there! :)
