Hello, my name is Krissy. I currently have a 4 year old yellow lab, Charlie, who is the light of my life. I have been wanting to expand our family, and another dog is not an option, so we've decided a cat would be good

I've never had a cat before! Although 4 years ago I never had my own dog before either!!

Since I've had Charlie I am much more involved in the rescue/adoption aspects of animals. I have pretty much narrowed our search down to a 2-3 yr old, black, male. His foster mom says that he is excellent with her dogs. I''ve introduced Charlie to cats before, and he just kind of ignores them, however these introductions have never been in his home. http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...petid=11398976

So I am looking for some suggestion on how to introduce them?

I am also looking for any information on raw feeding. I've been feeding Charlie raw for 2 years and would like to start Midnight on it once I bring him home.

Welcome to TCS!!!! You found the best cat site around!!! Once you have a cat you won't know how you lived without one! I'm so glad you chose to adopt a cat! And an ADULT cat! That's great! Most adult cats get stuck in shelters for their entire lives because kittens are so cute and cuddly. To be honest, if I adopted again I would adopt an adult myself, not just because I should, but because the kitten stages can be just plan awful

As for your question, I would probably post in the "cats and other animals" forum. There are a lot of cat/dog owners on this site. I don't think you should have much of a problem especially if your dog is good with cats.

Hey, welcome to the forums!

I can't help much with the "first time encounter" bit, except that I suggest reading the related articles in the Cat Behavior section, linked from the area at the top of the page. I can help a bit with the raw feeding, however, because we own two cats and feed them both raw meat. I can't speak for everyone, and I'm sure this isn't the only way, but my mother feeds them turkey bits with a peice of chicken neck in every serving. We also give them an all-natural dry food while we're sleeping.

I'm not sure if there are many raw feeding websites - I'm sure there are, I've just never bothered to look.

I've never introduced cat and dog to each other but am currently introducing cat and rabbits. Apparently though people say it's pretty much the same method they've used to introduce pets to each other.

I started by keeping both animals in different rooms and introducing their scents to each other first. Then once they were fine with that I made sure that they couldn't get to each other but can still see and sniff each other. Even touch and watched them and they just ignore each other for the most part. But I'd suggest something similar with yours.
