I went out and got a bag of Wellness CORE Monday and I mixed 1 ounce with her dad's cat food. Not very much, I filled her entire bowl so she could eat as she pleased. I mixed both dry then put It In, well you can tell which Is which lol (dad's Is a bright red color). So I was In the kitchen making a sandwhich and watching her eat, she keeps picking threw to get to the wellness. Is this normal when first switching to a new brand? If she doesn't eat the dad's could she get sick? Should I mix some wet/canned food In with the dads to make it more attractive to her, I'm afraid she wont eat the Dad's any more and I dont want to switch her right away. Yet I cant force her to eat both brands?? What should I do, should I ignore It and see if when she runs out If she'll eat dads, or add something to her dish.

If your kitty is eating the Wellness Core and leaving the Dad's behind, it's a good indication that she likes the Wellness much better than the Dad's, which is a good thing! So please don't try to force her to eat the Dad's if she doesn't want it, let her eat the Wellness.

The Wellness Core is very high in proteins and grain free, which is what your kitty probably likes. In fact, eating the Wellness will go a long ways towards improving your cat's health!

If your cat continues to eat the Dad's it could, in the long run, make her sick. The ingredients in the Dad's are horrible, to say the least. Just the first four ingredients alone are the worst!

Ground Yellow Corn, (straight sugar causes feline diabetes)

Chicken By-Product Meal, (Even on premium brands, you will notice one of the major ingredients listed is "by-products" of some sort. By-products are basically defined as "parts other than meat." These may include internal organs not commonly eaten by humans, such as lungs, spleens, and intestines, other parts such as cow udders and uteri, and in the case of poultry by-products, heads, beaks and feet. By-products must be from "freshly slaughtered" animals, although there is some question as to how fresh they really are by the time they reach the pet food manufacturer.)

Corn Gluten Meal, (more sugar)

I think you have done a good thing by giving her the Wellness. Stick with it and don't feed her the Dad's anymore, that stuff should go straight into the garbage!

And do make sure she is drinking plenty of water.

Everybody said I had to slowly switch her over to the Wellness CORE, and that If I just out of the blew went straight to another brand she would get ill? This Is the first time she's ever ate this brand. I'm very confuzed, everybody said that I cant just start feeding the brand all the way with out giving her atleast 7 days to slowly adjust?

I can't say I've had much experience with this problem, but if she likes the Wellness and won't eat the Dad's, that's a good sign. And if Dad's is as bad as Shanynne says, all the better that she's not eating it!

Ok, so I should just throw the Dad's away and start feeding her Wellness CORE?

If she's not eating the Dad' s, that's what I would do.

As a general rule, when switching foods, it is better to go slowly. This is because usually most cats are finicky and don't like change in their food habits. By switching them over slowly it gives them a chance to get used to the new food, it's smell, taste and texture.

Also sometimes switching to a new food can cause stomach upsets or change in stools, which is why switching slowly is often recommended as this gives the cat's system a chance to get used to the new food.

However, in my opinion, if the cat is eating the new food right off the bat, then I would stick to the new food. The worse that could happen is that she might get constipated or even have loose stools for a couple of days. If that happens it should straighten itself out in three to four days

Then again her stomach and stools could really be loving the new food and be just fine. Just make sure she is drinking plenty of water.

Compare the ingredients of the two brands and see the difference. Also trust your cat's nose. Remember that cats are obligate carnivores and your baby is probably eating the new food because she's thinking "at last some real protein!"

So don't worry, Wellness Core is an excellent choice for you cat, lots of protein which is what she craves.

I bought a 2lb bag because I didnt think she would eat it, but I put her bowl down at around 8am, and she still hasn't touched the dad's. I also put down a 3oz can of Solid Gold tuna and she licked It dry. Honestly, I dont think she's a picky eater lol, either that or she didnt like dad's. I'm not sure how long the previous owner had her, but I know for sure they fed the same brand the entire time. At Petco they wanted like $36 per 12lb bag, but I went to Wellness website. Found a store right In my city that carries It, so I stopped In they only charge $27 and the lady said Its not on sale!!!! I got 2 12lb bags
, hopefully she's happy with her new diet. Also I noticed she's more friendly?? I just got her and I didnt think she would be as relaxed, but after I gave her the Wellness CORE and Solid gold, she's been all over me. I dont know If she's just looking for more or Is saying thank you lol.

Wow, that's great! I want to switch to Wellness Core, too. My cats are not really picky but I love that Core is for all ages. Right now I'm buying Blue Buffalo for kittens and adult but my kitten keeps eating the adult food and vice versa. So I have no idea how much my adult cat is eating- I think she's eating all the kitten's food.

Oh
, yeah I noticed that to. So It would be the perfect dry for when my 3 kitties get old enough to eat solids. I just let her eat as she wants, my dog doesn't touch the cat food, I feed her Eagle Pack and she hasn't bothered the kitty food or rebel. Which I hope will remain the same lol!

The Wellness Core is great food, I'm glad that your kitty picked up on that right away. The reason for phasing in new food slowly is to let the kitty adapt to the new food. But, if she's eating the new food right away...toss the old food away...it isn't very good anyway.

You said that you put down a can of Solid Gold tuna? Is this human tuna that we would use to make sandwiches, etc. If it is....it's not good to feed your kitty that stuff. Cats do like tuna, but stick to cat food tuna.
