Marianjela won again using the secret word young(er). Rabernet is back in the race by using other, and Glitch continues her pursuit with forum(s). Chance and take were not used.

Are you aware of which portions of TCS the Search (above) looks in? Are you aware when you put two words in if the search treats these words as an AND or an OR? Do you know of a way to search for two words in a row (for instance in google you would use "two words")? Would you have expected entering kat to have returned all of the KatKwiz threads? Do you know how to produce a list of all the KatKwiz threads?

Note: I use KatKwery questions to determine areas I need to cover in future KatKwizzes.

I think you can select which areas of TCS you want to conduct a search in. I don't think the search can use the words and/or because it's too common. Google is the same way. If you want to search for two words at the same time simply type in both words. It should pull up everything with both words in it. I would have figured entering Kat would have pulled up Katkwizs. I guess you have to type in Katkwiz to find all the threads.

where the Search looks depends on where you tell it to look. for example, when i'm looking for the KatKwiz question of the day, i do an advanced search. however, i've found that searching by your username, & limiting my search to the Cat Lounge is the most productive method to find the current one. i'd probably do the same, only w/o limiting the date [which i also usually do] in order to find the whole list. sure, i'd get some other posts of yours, but i can ignore those. oh, forgot - i also request the response show as threads, rather than posts. for searching multiple words, i'd most likely try using quotes around the phrase - but i usually search by username ['cause i'm looking for a specific thread, most of the time] instead of key words because i've found that i'm more likely to find what i'm looking for in that way.

Thanks again guys! I havent won the Kwiz in awhile, it made my morning to be the first one there this morning!

I performed my search both ways this morning. Not knowing if the finicky kats would want just the root word or any variations thereof, I had to do it twice.

In order to search for KatKwiz (or KatKwery) by only searching the word "kat") I used an * asterisk * This returns ALL the results with the word Kat in it. I decided to do it both ways when I first searched for Kat by itself and it returned zero hits. This made me search for the variations. So I had to go back and redo cat too, which then returned a higher count for all the plural words. I was afraid that I was not going to be fast enough this morning, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I use "quotation marks" all the time when searching Google. This sure does narrow down your results when you are looking for something in particular. Especially when using common words. But I'm not sure if I ever used them within this site. I've also used "and" or "or" when searching, and another trick I use is the minus sign "-" especially when searching for something on ebay or my Childhood Cancer Support Group.

I guess I use search functions a lot - even within a single web page or word document - using CTRL+F. On TCS I have narrowed my searches by searching in just a particular forum for a word or author/member. The searches perform much quicker when it doesnt have to go through the entire site. Another thing is, I find myself using the asterisk and partial words a lot instead of whole words in case there are spelling errors or a variety of words.

Anyway, thanks again Lee for the points and for making my day

Thank you! Im not completly sure as to which areas it covers, but Im pretty sure if you do an advanced search you can make it choose which forums, threads and other places you want it to look! I think it says that those words are too common to be found. Im not positive, but Im determined to figure it out now! No I wouldn't have expected it to produce all of them, I went to the search feature, went to advanced search, typed in katkwiz for the search words then types in Persi & Alley and clicked "exact name" so that it would only located the ones started by you, but it also came up with the katkwery (or a couple of them katkwery) I also put in for it to only look in the cat lounge since that is obviously where you frequently post the katkwiz & katkwery, it didn't give me any other threads besides katkwiz and katkwery though, but Im trying other options now!
Okay, I think I got it, go to search, when the dropdown menu shows up click on advanced search, then type in katkwiz and the option below that click title only instead of posts also, then type in Persi & Alley, go down and click on it for the cat lounge only and uncheck the children forums too and ta-da! Any title with the word katkwiz shows up! God I hope thats right, not like its the katkwiz or anything but I would like to at least have done it the correct way! Thanks for the points by the way, I appreciate them!

Glitch, just type in an *asterisk* after the word you are searching and it will return anything that includes the root word you are searching.

For example:

kat*

returns kat, kats, katkwiz, katkwery, etc.

the asterisk on the end is for characters on the end.

if you type in *hat (with the asterisk in the front)

then it would return chat, hat, phat, etc...
