Your right, lets get onto happier topics lol

I love all the horses! Keep the pictures coming, I love browsing them!

Ok, hope you dont mind If I post some of my local horses, There's not too many for now but I'll try to remember to bring a camera out tomorrow so I can have pics of all the horses I'm currently working now

First up, a picture of some of my aunts horses, taken a few years ago. The mare is named Brandy, shes 14.1 hands and though I do still ride her on occasion, shes starting to get near her retirement. The babies name is Bailey, I'm excited because this fall we'll be starting to break him!

Another picture of Brandy, about a year ago. Excuse my ugliness, I had no idea pictures were being taken of me

A different horse of my aunts, her older gelding named Cat. He's a quarter horse/arab cross, and even though hes basically retired except for the occasional ride, hes still a ball of fire and is always trying to take off in a dead run. No dull moments with him!

Now for a lesson horse, I rode him in January and February, his name is Buddy. I'm pretty sure hes a pure quarter horse, but the stable didnt know for sure.

Now meet Jazz. Shes a pure registered quarter horse, and is being trained to run barrels. This is the first horse that I was hired to exercise, before I moved on to any of teh ones I ride now. I still like to ride her once in a while, Its always an adventure as shes VERY energetic (Thus her name, because she always Jazzes around when you try to stop) and even though shes an experienced trail horse, she enjoys spooking at absolutely nothing. It was like bomb training for me to get me ready for younger horses

Now, one of the horses I ride now, named Cole. Shes a little older, about 9ish, and this is both of our first year barrel racing, so we kinda learned together. This was taken at one of the jackpots this year, she was watching her buddy Jazz do a run (hope shes picking up tips
)

And, drumroll please, my own horse Mikki. Shes three years old and a pure quarter horse, and just a few weeks ago I rode her for the first time. I think you'll agree shes absolutely beautiful

First time I was ever on her, I was so proud of how calm she was!

More will probably come in a few days, soon as I remember to bring a camera to the farm to take pics of my other charges

Haha, I love Jazz too, shes such a little sweetie, always coming up to say hello. Take a look at her coloring, did you know her owner was able to get her registered as a paint? Theres a teensy bit of white around her hindquarters, and since her face has such a different marking, they decided it was just BARELY enough to qualify her. I know I wouldnt have guessed just from looking at her. And another fact....Jazz shares the same father as my horse! They were both sired by my other friends stud, who is a VERY good producer of barrel horses. They both share the same love of going FAST!

another pic of Jazz's face, so you can see what I'm talking about....(please excuse her dirtyness, she just finished having a good roll, and she seems to enjoy rubbing her beautiful white face in it....
)

And dont worry about not recognizing me
I dont mind, I'm happy you remembered Mikki though, its been a while since I've posted a pic of her here. Sadly, due to no camera I have no newer photos of her than the ones you've already seen

Are you sure those are Gypsy Vanners? At least here in the US they are VERY expensive horses. Expensive enough I'll probably never own one, even though I love them!

I have a horse, he's a 19 year old Arabian gelding. He's got a pretty neat story, I was browsing internet ads for "free" horses for the heck of it (there's a lot of horses being given away right now, the market it is terrible) and saw one that just said "Free Arab trail horse" in the headline. I opened it, and saw he was only about 90 miles away, and I just felt that I had to have him. So I emailed his owner and she actually happened to be online and sent me a message on Yahoo IM. We chatted a few minutes and she asked me to come take a look at him. So a few days later Hubby, DD, and I went to see him and I rode him. Decided he MUST come with me! Between the time that I talked to his owner and the time I went to see him, I found a really nice boarding barn. The barn owner actually went and picked him up for me the very next day, and only charged me for gas. His owner wanted to find him a new home because he's certainly not ready to slow down and take it easy, and she said she was getting too old to ride a horse like him (he's definitely got spunk!). She just wanted to find him a good home, and asked that if I ever have to give him up, she wants him to come back to her. Which is fine with me, because all too often older horses end up on a truck to Mexico (which means they are brutally slaughtered). I'm glad that he's got a home for life, whether it's with me or her. He's just the most awesome horse, I adore him! I was without horses for 6 years after my daughter was born and I ended up having to sell my two horses. It's nice having a horse in my life again!

Here's Desert As-Kal, AKA Mr. Nib (the MR is VERY important!)
We were arguing about whether we were out to ride or graze in this picture

After a bath just the other day...

I LOVE this shot. He was really full of himself. I later found it was because we had a really bad storm (removed a small part of the barn roof!) coming in. It hit about an hour after this picture was taken.

Oooh I've started something now!

Pride, Sophie, Mr.Nib, Jazz, Brandy, Bailey, Cat, Mikki and Cole are all GORGEOUS!

I would absolutely LOVE to do barrel racing. If I ever see it on TV or on horsey sites I always let my mom know how much I want to do it

Father Ted, who I galloped on the beach with in Cumbria

Apache, who my mom rode in Cumbria (although she doesn't gallop!)

Fleur, who used to be at Monty's riding school, but they sold her to a trekking centre

I'll try and find some more pix for ya'll, but for now, here's a couple of videos.

And in advance, IGNORE ANY STUPID NOISES OR SOUNDS I MAKE TO THE HORSES!

http://s82.photobucket.com/albums/j248/laura_catlover/?action=view&current=Horses.flv Lorna, who belonged to my moms friend. She was such a cutie. RIP
And there's a couple of her 'field mates' on there too

..And by the way, I am RUBBISH at taking videos!

Barrel racing is tons of fun! I'm training Mr. Nib for it. So far we're only trotting the pattern (he's got a bit of an issue with the outdoor arena that we have to work through before we can work outside, where the ground is suitable for running). I did take him to the barrel races a month or so ago, just for the experience. He spooked at all of the barrels, because the ones at the barn are plain black, and these were painted red, white, and blue! But we trotted them in a respectable 40 seconds. Not bad when you consider that a *real* barrel racer loped them in 40 seconds and the winning time was like 23 seconds (huge arena).

I couldn't see the white, but we have a friend who's horse is a registered paint with one tinsy tiny white spot on his stomach
And I can't register MY paint because I don't have papers

I'm almost possitive they are gypsys, I don't know what else they could be will the feathers, colors, patterns, it all adds up. Gypsys are really expensive here in the states because they are a relatively new horse to us. Last time I checked there was only about 500 of them in the US, which explains their price. I don't know what they are worth in Europe, but considering they are a European horse developed by gyspys.....they probably aren't as prized as they are here in the states.

That's a great story about your horse! He's gorgeous and you're so lucky! FREE! That's amazing! You've got a lot of years left on him if you keep him healthy and keep ridding him. We have a family friend who's had two horses make it past 40.

Have you never barrel raced??? You crazy english (style) riders!
I've been offered well over a $1,000 for my 21-year-old Bonnet, because they want her for barrel racing/poles/gaming. I tell em they're crazy! I wouldn't sell her for the world! (some of the offers are DOUBLE what I paid for her!
they're nuts!). If you ever watch rodeos, there's a quite a few horses over 20, and one in particular that is AMAZING who's 26 years old! I of course forget her name.

BTW your videos are great!

Yep, us english style riders are quite boring.

We do games and gymkhanas over here, but that tends to only be Pony Club kids (usually stuck up people, but not all of them) and things, but I just prefer going into a big field and going flat out

As for the Gypsy Vanner business I've had a look on the inet for ones for sale, and most of them are referred to over here as just gypsy cobs.

If you'd class this as a Vanner...

Then he is £3,500.

But still, when I go on Saturday if I ride Patch I'll ask someone for you

I would most deffinitely call him a Gypsy Vanner. They are called "Gypsy" because that's who they were developed by, and "vanner" means "caravan horse". I did some researching and it seems that in the states we like to call them Vanners while europeans call them cobs.
No idea....

That's what I thought, WAY cheaper than over here. A BABY is at least $4,000. A bit over 2,500 Euros I believe. All I know is that if I ever want one I have to get it as a baby because an adult with training is WELL out of any price range I'll ever have.

I just did a search for a broke, decent patterned, black and white, Gypsy Vanner in the states:

$15,000
$30,000 (because of the great pattern/color/feathering)
$11,000
$17,000

Ouch...

Yeah, he's quite the picture hog!!Lol!!!

I am really excited too, because I may have found a place to board him that is even CLOSER to me! Right now he is an hour away...which is better than the four I used to have to travel once in a blue moon due to gas prices! Anyway, I may have found a place that is only about a half hour away, AND he will be used along with their other horses for their riding program for autistic kids. Best part about it will be that I won't have to pay anymore than I am now...I am just awaiting more pics of the facility, as well as a meeting time set up! I may even be able to board my goaties there...*crosses fingers*. The current BO has two aggressive dogs that I won't take the chance of introducing my goats to.

Well in that case if you want one you better come over here, they are the most popular horse (I think) and I bet that nearly all of the horses down the road are Vanners.
And because they are popular most of them are cheap
the cheapest 'cob' I've ever seen was around £700.
Wherever there's a spot of land (that usually belongs to the council) people just come and bring these horses here. Round the corner from me there is at least 10 of them CHAINED UP to poles in the floor with little grass and an occasional bucket of water. And worst of all, they don't even have proper headcollars, they just have rope or chain around their necks.
So God knows what might happen to them if they were to have a spooky fit or something!
And if they got loose (which they have done before) then they'd go straight onto a busy main road.

That's awesome news!!! I'm still waiting to be done with college and get a full time job so I can help pay for a house!
I just want a horse in my back yard! Is that too much to ask!

OH MY GOD!!! Those people are sick in the head!!! WHO would do that to a horse! Sick sick sick!

I wish I could rescue all the vanners over there!
They are my dream horse and people that don't deserve them are treating them like that?!

Yep, they are sick. I think that Patch must be a vanner, but I never got to ask on Saturday cuz I rode Margo (who is a lovely horse but refuses to stand still and always wants to roll! They're getting a new one today so maybe I'll ride him/her next week
)
